That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. For sellers, the current trend suggests you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Strong demand for family-friendly three-row SUVs can still support a healthy resale path if your example is clean and well cared for.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $25,340, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $29,829 average.
• It adds an Onyx Edition with blacked-out trim and water-resistant upholstery.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $32,439, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $29,829 average.
• It carries over with almost no changes and keeps the same practical Subaru formula.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the best all-around pick if you want the refreshed look, strong owner satisfaction, and a market that still offers decent deal availability. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the smarter value play, while the 2024 makes sense only if you want the newer model-year badge and are comfortable paying more.
