You should start with a vehicle history report so you can screen for accidents, title issues, and repeated ownership problems. Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Impreza or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.67% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,348, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,891 average.
• It offers standard all-wheel drive and a straightforward, practical lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and shopper satisfaction, the 2022 is the better primary target. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2021 is the better secondary path, especially if you find a clean example with the features and condition you want.
