Used 2022 Subaru Ascent for Sale nearSan Diego, CA

How much does the 2022 Subaru Ascent cost?

Prices have softened 11.70% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,513 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 7.5/10. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

The 2022 Ascent is built for you if you want a three-row Subaru with standard all-wheel drive and family-hauling capability. It also brings a new Onyx Edition for this year, adding blacked-out exterior trim and water-resistant upholstery for a more distinctive, more practical setup.

The main trade-offs are that the third row is cramped, the styling is uninspired, and the lane-keeping and lane-centering assistance can make the SUV feel less settled when you leave them on.

Good and great deals account for 38.7% of listings, which suggests you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Ascent leans into Subaru’s reputation for durability and confident travel in varied weather and road conditions. Its standard all-wheel drive and broad practical focus support that image, and the expert review also emphasizes the brand’s durability-minded character.

The powertrain is described as brisk, with commendable passing power and a CVT that keeps the turbo-four in its torque band while helping with quiet cruising. Subaru also says the SUV can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

If you’re buying used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is less about the core hardware and more about whether the vehicle was maintained and used in a way that preserved its comfort, drivability, and safety systems.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a thorough inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on overall condition, interior usability, and whether the safety and driver-assistance systems behave as expected on a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base trim gives you the standard 6.5-inch touchscreen, while Premium adds an 8-inch display and available connected services. The Onyx Edition sits in the middle of the lineup with blacked-out exterior trim, black 20-inch wheels, a unique grille, and StarTex upholstery, while Touring adds features such as a digital rearview mirror and a 180-degree-view front camera.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Ascent uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive. The setup is tuned for brisk acceleration, strong passing power, and up to 5,000 pounds of towing.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering technology. Steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist are also standard, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires at least Premium trim.
• Infotainment: Base models get a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a CD player. Premium trim upgrades to an 8-inch display with available WiFi hotspot and remote engine starting with climate control pre-conditioning.
• Fuel efficiency: The 20-inch-wheel versions are rated at 22 mpg combined, and the review notes an observed 20.5 mpg on its testing loop.

Which 2022 Subaru Ascent trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point if you want the Ascent’s core strengths at the lowest price. You still get standard all-wheel drive, EyeSight, and the basic infotainment setup, so it covers the essentials well.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 8-inch display and unlocks blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. If you want a more complete family SUV without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the one to target.
• Onyx Edition: Choose this if you want the midline trim with the year’s new styling twist and water-resistant StarTex upholstery. It’s the most distinctive choice in the lineup and suits you if you want a more rugged-looking, easier-to-clean cabin.
• Limited: This trim sits above the Onyx Edition and is the better pick if you want a more upscale-feeling Ascent without going all the way to the top.
• Touring: This is the trim to buy if you want the most equipment, including the digital rearview mirror and 180-degree-view front camera.

EyeSight is standard, but blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert require Premium trim or higher.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,513 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.70% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,340, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Ascent's resale value?

The current average of $25,340 sits slightly below last year's $28,700.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale will depend heavily on how well the vehicle holds its condition and equipment appeal. If you buy smart now, you may have less depreciation pressure than someone who paid closer to the prior-year average.

The Ascent’s strong safety reputation and practical family focus should help it stay relevant with used buyers. A well-kept example with desirable equipment is likely to remain easier to move later than one with visible wear or missing features.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent safe?

The Ascent gets a "Top Safety Pick+" award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the highest possible rating in all of the organization’s assessments, and earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA evaluations except rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering technology. The SUV also comes with steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires Premium trim or higher.

One caveat is that the lane-centering and adaptive cruise functions can feel less refined than you might want, and the camera-based system can struggle in low, direct sunlight.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 lineup adds the new Onyx Edition with blacked-out exterior trim and water-resistant upholstery.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,798, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $25,340 average.
• It offers standard all-wheel drive, a spacious cabin, and a long list of standard features.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing trend, the added Onyx Edition, and the stronger current market selection, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still gives you the core Ascent formula.
