The MINI Countryman is a small, nimble crossover with a standout design, inside and out. This makes it the ideal platform for a plug-in hybrid, blending efficiency and stylish functionality. MINI calls it the 2022 Cooper SE Countryman All4, which buries the lede on its plug-in hybrid functionality. The 2022 MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid features 17.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and up to 47.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

The Countryman Plug-In is available in two trims, the Signature trim and the Iconic trim. Standard features on the Signature trim include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, synthetic leather upholstery, a Harman Kardon premium audio system, and an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Moving up to the Iconic trim adds premium leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, navigation, and Apple CarPlay. Android Auto is not available in the Countryman.

The Countryman SE All4 features a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, combined with an electric motor and a battery pack. This setup makes 221 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque. The engine routes power through a 6-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels, and the electric motor powers the rear wheels for an all-wheel-drive setup. The Countryman Plug-In has an electric-power range of 17 miles. It can be recharged in about two hours using a conventional wall-style outlet.

The EPA assesses plug-in hybrids according to miles per gallon gasoline equivalent, or MPGe. The Countryman SE All4 returns 73 MPGe, and when the electric power is exhausted, it returns a combined 29 mpg.

The MINI Countryman Plug-In comes equipped with forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Available safety tech includes adaptive cruise control and a head-up display.

Base MSRP for the 2022 MINI Cooper SE Countryman All4 is $41,500. The Iconic trim adds $3,900 to that price. The Countryman’s lithium-ion battery is backed by an 8-year/80,000-mile warranty.
