Used 2022 Ford Expedition for Sale nearColumbia, SC

How much does the 2022 Ford Expedition cost?

Prices have softened 18.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,363 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Ford Expedition a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Ford Expedition earns a 4.83/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its towing capability, comfort for long trips, and spacious interior. They also see it as a good value relative to other large SUVs, and many appreciate its strong overall usefulness for family and road-trip duty.

On the expert side, the Expedition’s powerful engine and impressive technology stand out, but you should also expect poor fuel economy and a busy ride quality. That makes it a strong fit if you want a full-size SUV for hauling people, cargo, or trailers, but less compelling if efficiency and a relaxed ride matter most.

With 37.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Ford Expedition reliable?

Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free experience for many shoppers, especially if you value comfort, towing ability, and a roomy cabin. The Expedition also comes across as a vehicle people feel confident living with over the long term.

The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of durability and everyday usefulness, especially in how the SUV handles highway miles and family travel. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that a large, complex SUV can bring higher running costs and more potential for expensive repairs than a smaller vehicle.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Expedition?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples or trucks with lots of tech features. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the equipment you care about works as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, Platinum, and Timberline. The base trims are more basic, while Limited and above add more comfort and technology; Timberline is the one aimed at off-road use with standard 4WD, all-terrain tires, suspension modifications, more ground clearance, a skid plate, and Trail Turn Assist.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and some versions get a high-output tune. Fuel economy ranges from 17 mpg to 19 mpg in combined driving, and towing capacity ranges from 9,000 pounds to 9,300 pounds depending on equipment.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Limited and above add Co-Pilot360 Assist+ with adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, speed-limit-sign recognition, intersection assist, and evasive steering assist. King Ranch and Platinum standardize Co-Pilot Assist 2.0 with a surround-view camera, rear automatic emergency braking, and Active Park Assist 2.0.
• Infotainment: Standard Sync 4 uses a 12-inch touchscreen with physical controls below it. Sync 4A upgrades to a 15.5-inch portrait touchscreen and a single volume dial. Both systems include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, FordPass Connect with Wi-Fi hotspot access, natural voice recognition, and connected navigation. Sync 4 also adds SiriusXM, HD Radio, wireless charging, and premium audio options.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is poor for the class, with combined driving figures ranging from 17 mpg to 19 mpg, and the test vehicle returned 16.2 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2022 Ford Expedition trim should I buy?

The 2022 Ford Expedition is offered in 6 trim levels: XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, Platinum, and Timberline.

Here's the short version:

• XL STX: This is the entry point if you want the Expedition’s size and capability without paying for extra luxury features. It makes the most sense if you’re focused on basic full-size SUV utility and plan to add only the options you truly need.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it gives you a more balanced mix of equipment and price than the base model. If you want a practical family SUV with a broader feature set but don’t need the higher-end luxury touches, this is the trim to start with.
• Limited: This is the sweet spot if you want the strongest blend of comfort, technology, and everyday appeal. It also unlocks Co-Pilot360 Assist+, and the Stealth Edition packages are available only with this trim.
• King Ranch: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and standard Co-Pilot Assist 2.0. It also gets the surround-view camera system and rear automatic emergency braking as standard equipment.
• Platinum: This is the most luxurious mainstream choice in the lineup, with the same standard Co-Pilot Assist 2.0 safety setup as King Ranch. It’s the trim to target if you want the most premium experience short of specialty packages.
• Timberline: Pick this if you want the most rugged version of the Expedition. It adds standard 4WD, all-terrain tires, suspension modifications, more ground clearance, a skid plate, and Trail Turn Assist.

Ford’s safety-package progression is important here: Co-Pilot360 is standard, Assist+ starts with Limited, and Co-Pilot Assist 2.0 is standard on King Ranch and Platinum.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Ford Expedition?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,363 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $39,253, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Ford Expedition's resale value?

The current average of $39,253 sits slightly below last year's $47,974.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that means resale value may be more sensitive to condition, mileage, and equipment than it would be in a stronger pricing environment.

Well-kept examples with desirable features should still draw interest because the Expedition has broad family and towing appeal. But if you’re planning to sell later, you’ll want to protect value by keeping the vehicle clean, documented, and mechanically sound.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Ford Expedition safe?

The 2022 Ford Expedition earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Limited and above add Co-Pilot360 Assist+ with adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, speed-limit-sign recognition, intersection assist, and evasive steering assist. King Ranch and Platinum standardize Co-Pilot Assist 2.0, which adds a surround-view camera, rear automatic emergency braking, and Active Park Assist 2.0.

One caution is that the lane-centering assist can be irritating and inconsistent in real-world use, sometimes issuing unnecessary warnings or canceling itself. If you’re considering a used example, it’s worth testing the driver-assistance systems carefully on your own roads.

Should I buy a 2022 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert testing highlights the twin-turbo V6, impressive technology, and a terrific full-size SUV overall.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,561, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,253 average.
• It is a practical choice for towing, hauling cargo, or carrying passengers.

The 2022 is the better pick if you want the updated tech, strong owner satisfaction, and a market that has already moved lower on price. If your priority is simply getting into an Expedition for less money, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core utility that makes this SUV appealing.
