About 2022 Ferrari 812
For decades, Ferrari’s lineup could be classified by either a mid-engine V8 supercar or a front/mid-engine V12 coupe or convertible. For all the white-knuckle performance of the V8s, it’s the V12s, such as the 2022 Ferrari 812 Superfast, that represent the pinnacle of the brand. Beyond simply offering insane, corner-carving performance, the Ferrari 812 is designed as a grand-touring car and can fit some weekend bags and cruise along highways and boulevards. The 812 features 20-inch wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes, rich leather upholstery, and seemingly endless customization options. The 812 also features an instrument panel that combines a traditional tachometer with modern digital screens. The screen to the left of the tach largely displays vehicle data (think typical instrument panel information), while the one to the right is the infotainment screen. Using a toggle to the right of the instrument panel, you can switch between radio, music, and navigation screens, as well as access system settings. The front passenger also gets a screen of their own, albeit one that is smaller and tucked into the dash. Through this screen, the front passenger can see what gear the 812 is in and can monitor the engine revs and the vehicle speed. This screen also allows the front passenger to get involved with the music and navigation. For 2022, Ferrari introduces the track-focused Competizione to highlight what could very well be the last non-hybrid V12 from Ferrari. The Competizione builds upon the 812 GTS. Performance enhancements include a massive rear diffuser, updated rear-wing design, and carbon fiber strip across the hood. The Competizione features additional aerodynamic components and a louvered rear window. The 812 is also available in the Competizione A, or “Aperta,” model, which adds a retractable hardtop. Under its long hood, the 812 features a 6.5-liter V12 engine. It makes 789 horsepower in the GTS, while the Competizione ups the ante with 819 horsepower. Both vehicles route power to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The Competizione will sprint from zero to 60 mph in a claimed 2.89 seconds on the way to a top speed of 211 mph; the GTS will do the same run in 2.9 seconds. The Competizione’s engine redlines at an incredible 9,500 rpm, making it one of the highest-revving road-going Ferrari V12s of all time. The Ferrari 812 returns fuel economy of 12 mpg city, 15 highway, and 13 combined. The production run for the 2022 Ferrari 812 Competizione is very limited. Ferrari is making just 500 hardtop and 312 retractable hardtop versions. No matter, as every version of the Competizione is already sold out!
