How much does the 2020 RAM 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 8.01% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 9,713 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 RAM 1500 earns a 4.75/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, smooth ride, and spacious interior, and they also highlight the powerful engine. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a pickup that feels more refined for daily driving without giving up truck usefulness. The main trade-off is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you may need to shop carefully if driver assistance matters to you. Good and great deals account for 32.0% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, with praise centered on its smooth ride, spacious cabin, and strong overall comfort. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the EcoDiesel and eTorque systems are meaningful improvements, which supports the sense that the truck’s powertrains were engineered with long-term usability in mind. The diesel return was the result of extensive reworking, and that kind of development effort can be reassuring if you plan to keep the truck for years. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is making sure the specific truck you choose has been maintained well and doesn’t have unresolved issues tied to its more complex equipment.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 RAM 1500?

At 71% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of the body, frame, and any safety-related equipment. Pay close attention to condition on trucks with more features, since the 2020 RAM 1500 can vary a lot by trim and option content. If you’re considering a diesel or a heavily optioned truck, make sure the equipment works as intended and that the truck’s condition matches its asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tradesman starts with steel wheels, vinyl upholstery and flooring, a bench seat, a 5-inch touchscreen, and a fairly basic cabin, while the Big Horn adds foglights, carpet, tinted windows, and available upgrades like 20-inch wheels, air suspension, dual-zone climate control, and the 8.4-inch touchscreen. The Laramie and above bring a much more upscale feel, and the Limited adds premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and more safety equipment.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 3.6-liter V6 with eTorque, an optional 5.7-liter V8, or the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. The V6 is the efficiency play, the V8 brings stronger output and towing ability, and the EcoDiesel delivers the most torque with a focus on towing and fuel economy.
• Safety package: The truck’s safety suite includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and auto emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Some of these features are limited to higher trims, so check carefully before assuming a truck has them.
• Infotainment: Screen sizes range from a 5-inch touchscreen to an 8.4-inch unit and an available 12-inch tablet-style display. Smartphone integration is available, and the larger screen is the one that really elevates the cabin experience.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 can return 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined, while the V8 can return up to 17/23/19. The EcoDiesel averaged 15.4 mpg in mixed driving during the test drive.

Which 2020 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2020 RAM 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the value-focused starting point, and it gives you the essentials without much fluff. It’s the right pick if you want the lowest-cost path into the lineup and don’t mind a more basic cabin.
• Big Horn: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished feel and opens the door to desirable upgrades like the larger touchscreen, better climate control, and air suspension. If you want the sweet spot between price and comfort, this is the one to target.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want the more aggressive, off-road-oriented setup with lifted suspension, skid plates, tow hooks, and off-road tires. It’s the trim for buyers who want a tougher personality and more trail-ready hardware.
• Laramie: This is the move if you want a clear jump in luxury, with leather, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, parking sensors, and a better stereo. It suits you if comfort and tech matter more than keeping the price down.
• Laramie Longhorn: This trim leans into upscale style with premium materials, navigation, heated and ventilated rear seating, and more exterior flair. It’s a strong choice if you want a premium-feeling truck with a distinctive cabin.
• Limited: This is the top luxury choice, with standard air suspension, premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and added safety equipment. It’s the one to buy if you want the most fully equipped version and are willing to pay for it.

Safety equipment is not standard across the lineup, and some of the most advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 RAM 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,713 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.01% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,891, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $27,891 sits slightly below last year's $30,320.

That decline suggests the truck has become more affordable for buyers, which can make it a little harder for sellers to command top dollar right now. If you’re planning to sell later, the good news is that the model still has broad appeal thanks to its comfort, styling, and strong reputation. Trucks with desirable equipment and clean histories should hold up better than average, especially if they’re well maintained and priced realistically.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2020 RAM 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The available safety suite includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Some of those features are not standard, and the most advanced items are reserved for higher trims. The IIHS accolade also depends on the Crew Cab configuration with all active safety equipment and optional LED lights, so you should verify the exact truck you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2020 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.01% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for bringing back the EcoDiesel engine and making it available across the lineup.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $24,214, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $27,891 average.
• It emphasizes comfort and refinement with a commuter-friendly ride.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,328, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,891 average.
• It adds the TRX for buyers who want a high-performance pickup.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, comfort, and unusual diesel availability, the 2020 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 gives you a lower entry price, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer performance-focused direction.
