About 2020 Polestar 1
Overview

Polestar is a brand-new automaker, offering boutique performance hybrid vehicles. Its first model, the aptly named 1, debuts for 2020.
The 1 is a sleek two-door grand-touring coupe, wearing plenty of Volvo styling cues. That’s because this brand and car are brought to you by the Volvo team, and the 1 was inspired by the Volvo Concept Coupé design study. As far as seating goes, the 1 uses a 2+2 setup, with full-size front seats and a pair of occasional-use rear seats.
Polestar gives the 1 a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine and 8-speed automatic transmission on the front axle. On the rear axle, there are two electric motors and a 34-kilowatt-hour electric battery. Together, the whole system gives you all-wheel drive (AWD), 626 horsepower, and 738 pound-feet of torque. While official fuel-economy estimates aren’t available yet, the Polestar promises a substantial all-electric range and plug-in charging capability. A carbon-fiber upper body, an active rear spoiler, Öhlins dual-flow suspension dampers, and Akebono brakes provide some of the 1’s performance advantages.
Polestar has made sure the 1 is a technological powerhouse in other ways, too. Even gaining access is a seamless affair, with the “phone-as-a-key” feature. From there, you’ll find a digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and intelligent voice controls.
The Polestar 1 is a limited-production vehicle. As of this writing, the company is accepting deposits for its second 2020 production allocation.
