Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Lincoln Aviator earns a 4.61/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the luxurious feel, powerful performance, and spacious interior. The smooth ride and advanced features also come up often, especially the adaptive cruise control and comfortable seating.

The main trade-offs are the automatic transmission’s shifting and a price that some owners feel is high for the segment. In practical terms, this is a strong fit if you want a midsize, 3-row luxury SUV that leans into comfort and upscale presentation rather than bargain pricing.

36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop selectively.

Lincoln also includes a broad set of standard safety and driver-assistance features, which can help reduce day-to-day stress for owners. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and that any transmission-related concerns have been addressed.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the transmission behavior, cabin electronics, and overall interior condition, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on refinement. It also makes sense to focus on how well the vehicle’s luxury features work in real life, because that’s a big part of what you’re paying for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Standard trim comes well equipped with three-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, Sync 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a WiFi hotspot, four USB ports, and satellite radio. The Reserve adds second-row captain’s chairs, 12-way power front seats, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, Revel premium sound, quad-zone climate control, a surround-view camera system, and navigation. The Grand Touring adds the plug-in hybrid drivetrain and more of the higher-end equipment, while the Black Label trims bring the most luxurious presentation and nearly every feature as standard. The Standard is the best-value trim.
• Powertrain: The standard setup is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. The Grand Touring pairs that engine with a 100-hp electric motor and battery pack for a net 494 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque. Both use a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the base V6 is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Lincoln Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also included, along with a head-up display. Some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve.
• Infotainment: The Aviator uses a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The layout is conventional and landscape-oriented, and the system also supports a fully digital instrument panel. A head-up display is available on higher trims or packages.
• Fuel efficiency: The conventionally powered Aviator with rear-wheel drive returns 18 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined. With all-wheel drive, it returns 17 mpg city, 24 highway, 20 combined. The plug-in hybrid returns 23 mpg combined, with a 21-mile electric-only range and 56 miles per gallon equivalent combined.

Which 2020 Lincoln Aviator trim should I buy?

The 2020 Lincoln Aviator is offered in 5 trim levels: Standard, Reserve, Grand Touring, Black Label, and Black Label Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Standard: This is the best-value trim because it already includes a strong luxury feature set, including leather upholstery, heated front seats, three-zone climate control, parking sensors, Sync 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a WiFi hotspot. If you want the core Aviator experience without pushing deep into luxury pricing, this is the trim to target.
• Reserve: This trim adds meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades such as second-row captain’s chairs, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, a premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, and a surround-view camera system. It makes sense if you want a more upscale family-hauler feel and are willing to pay more for it.
• Grand Touring: This is the choice if you want the plug-in hybrid drivetrain and the strongest performance numbers. It also layers in much of the equipment from the lower trims, making it the most compelling pick for buyers who want power and efficiency together.
• Black Label: This is the luxury-first choice, with the most exclusive materials and nearly every feature standard. It suits you if you want the most premium Aviator experience and are comfortable paying for it.
• Black Label Grand Touring: This combines the Black Label luxury treatment with the Grand Touring plug-in hybrid setup. It is the top-end choice if you want maximum equipment and the hybrid drivetrain in one package.

Lincoln Co-Pilot360 is standard, but some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 887 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.69% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,994, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator's resale value?

The current average of $28,001 sits slightly below last year's $31,707.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper future resale gains if you own the vehicle for only a short time. For a seller, it means pricing competitively will matter more than relying on brand prestige alone.

The good news is that the Aviator’s luxury appeal, comfort, and strong owner satisfaction can help sustain demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator safe?

The 2020 Lincoln Aviator earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Lincoln Co-Pilot360 is standard, and it includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also included, along with a head-up display.

The standard safety equipment is broad, but some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve. That means you should check the exact equipment list on any used example, especially if you want the most complete safety setup.

Should I buy a 2020 Lincoln Aviator or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It marks Lincoln’s return to a more clearly luxury-focused identity with a stylish design and comfortable cabin.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,191, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,001 average.
• It adds a more modern technology and creature-comfort focus with a more upscale feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the better secondary path for buyers who want the latest take on the Aviator’s luxury formula.
