What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Nissan Altima?

At 54.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has any signs of prior bodywork or uneven wear. Focus on condition first: interior wear, tire condition, brake feel, and whether the technology and driver-assistance features work as expected. If a listing looks unusually cheap, make sure the savings are not hiding repair history or equipment issues.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S comes with Zero Gravity seats, push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, four USB ports, satellite radio, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SR adds 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a rear spoiler, and a dark chrome grille, while the SV adds more comfort and convenience features such as heated seats, a heated steering wheel, a moonroof, and automatic climate control. The SL adds leather seating, a Bose premium sound system, and navigation with live traffic updates, while the Platinum adds 19-inch wheels, memory settings, a surround-view monitor, and interior accent lighting. For value, the SV stands out as the best-balanced choice.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder makes 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, while the available turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder is offered on SR and Platinum trims. Both engines use a CVT, and the car can be had with front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, and Nissan makes forward-collision warning and driver-alertness monitoring standard on every Altima. Standard safety equipment also includes front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, and a reversing camera.
• Infotainment: The Altima uses an 8-inch touchscreen on the S trim and NissanConnect across the lineup, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. A 7-inch color Drive Assist display sits between the gauges on every trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5-liter engine returns 28 mpg city, 39 highway, and 32 combined, while AWD lowers that to 25 city, 35 highway, and 29 combined. The turbocharged 2.0-liter is expected to return 25 mpg city, 34 highway, and 29 combined.

Which 2019 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2019 Nissan Altima is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SR, SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong equipment list with the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, push-button start, and the comfortable Zero Gravity seats. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model without giving up the core tech.
• SR: This trim adds a sportier look with 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, a rear spoiler, and a darker grille treatment. It suits you if style matters more than maximum value.
• SV: This is the best-value trim because it adds the most useful everyday upgrades, including heated seats, a heated steering wheel, a moonroof, automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, and Intelligent Climate Control. If you want the sweet spot, this is it.
• SL: This trim moves you closer to a near-luxury feel with leather seating, a Bose audio system, and navigation with live traffic updates. It fits you best if comfort and premium features matter more than price.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped version, adding memory settings, a surround-view monitor, and interior accent lighting on top of the rest of the lineup. Choose it if you want the most features and don’t mind paying for them.

ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, while forward-collision warning and driver-alertness monitoring are standard on every Altima.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Nissan Altima?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,340 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.54% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,554, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $13,554 sits slightly below last year's $14,982.

That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. For a seller, the current market shows that demand is still present, but buyers are price-sensitive and have plenty of listings to compare. That means condition, trim, and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2019 Nissan Altima earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, and a reversing camera. Nissan also makes forward-collision warning and driver-alertness monitoring standard on every Altima, while ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims. That means you get a solid baseline of safety tech even before moving up the lineup.

Should I buy a 2019 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 is all-new and brings premium interior materials plus easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $14,143, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $13,554 average.
• Safety Shield 360 becomes more widely available.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2019 is the smarter buy because it already offers strong tech, good safety, and a lower average price. If you’re willing to pay more for broader safety availability, the 2020 is the better path.
