The ownership risk for used buyers is mostly about condition and maintenance history, so a clean service record matters more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Nissan Altima?

At 54.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings with similar prices. Focus on overall condition, signs of inconsistent repairs, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim you expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S comes with Zero Gravity seats, push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, four USB ports, satellite radio, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SR adds 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a rear spoiler, a dark chrome V-motion grille, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, cloth seats with leather inserts, and carbon grain door trim. The SV adds 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, automatic high beams, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, power lumbar adjustment, a power moonroof, automatic climate control with backseat vents, adaptive cruise control, and Intelligent Climate Control. The SL adds leather seating, a 4-way power front-passenger seat, a 9-speaker Bose premium sound system, and navigation with live traffic updates. The Platinum adds 19-inch wheels, 2-mode memory settings for the driver’s seat, a 360-degree surround-view monitor, and interior accent lighting. For value, the SV stands out as the best-balanced choice.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder makes 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque and pairs with a CVT. A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder is available on the SR and Platinum, and Nissan says it aims for V6-like power with 4-cylinder fuel economy. The 2.5-liter engine returns 28 mpg city, 39 highway, and 32 combined, while the turbo 2.0-liter is expected to return 25 mpg city, 34 highway, and 29 combined.
• Safety package: ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, and it adds speed matching and small steering inputs to help keep the car centered in its lane. Forward-collision warning and driver-alertness monitoring are standard on every Altima. Standard safety features also include front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, and a reversing camera.
• Infotainment: The Altima comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, NissanConnect, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 7-inch color Drive Assist display. The system is designed to be straightforward, with hard buttons and dials below the screen. OTA capability is not mentioned.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5-liter engine returns 28 mpg city, 39 highway, and 32 combined. The turbocharged 2.0-liter is expected to return 25 mpg city, 34 highway, and 29 combined. AWD lowers the 2.5-liter’s figures to 25 city, 35 highway, and 29 combined.

Which 2019 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2019 Nissan Altima is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SR, SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong equipment list with Zero Gravity seats, push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, four USB ports, satellite radio, and the 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Altima.
• SR: This trim adds a more aggressive look with 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, a rear spoiler, and dark chrome exterior trim, plus a leather-wrapped steering wheel and sportier cabin details. Choose it if style matters more to you than maximum value.
• SV: This is the best-value trim because it adds a lot of everyday comfort and convenience, including heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a moonroof, automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, and Intelligent Climate Control. It also gets ProPilot Assist, which makes it the sweet spot for many shoppers.
• SL: This trim leans more upscale with leather seating, a Bose premium audio system, and navigation with live traffic updates. It suits you if you want a more premium cabin without going all the way to the top trim.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped version, adding a surround-view monitor, memory settings, and interior accent lighting on top of the rest of the lineup. It’s the right pick if you want the most features and don’t mind paying for them.

ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, while forward-collision warning and driver-alertness monitoring are standard on every Altima.

• Deal availability: 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,365 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.45% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,553, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $13,553 sits slightly below last year's $14,968.

That price movement suggests the Altima has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If the market stays steady, a lower entry cost gives you more room to recover value later. The strongest resale prospects usually come from well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, and a reversing camera. Should I buy a 2019 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 is all-new and brings premium interior materials plus easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $14,158, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $13,553 average.
• Safety Shield 360 becomes more widely available.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the smarter buy because prices are lower and the model already feels modern. If you’re willing to spend more for broader safety availability, the 2020 is the better alternative.
