What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Pathfinder?

At 54.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can check for wear, repair quality, and any signs that the vehicle has been used hard. Focus especially on overall condition, because the best used example here is the one that has been cared for consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S includes the 8-inch touchscreen, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, roof rails, push-button start, remote keyless entry, a reversing camera, Bluetooth, and three-zone automatic climate control. The SV adds smart auto-on headlights, fog lights, remote start, HomeLink, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift-knob, and reversing backup sensors. The SL adds a 360-degree camera system, leather seating and door trim, heated front and rear seats, a blind-spot warning system, and a motion-activated liftgate. The Platinum adds navigation with real-time traffic and weather, a panoramic moonroof, heated and cooled front seats, a forward-collision-avoidance system, and adaptive cruise control.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 284 horsepower, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. It also offers a 2-wheel-drive mode for better fuel economy, an Auto setting, and a locked 4WD mode for rougher conditions.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes front and side impact airbags, Vehicle Dynamics Control with traction control, front and rear crumple zones, LATCH anchors, tire pressure monitoring, and Easy-Fill Tire Alert. Optional safety tech includes forward-collision warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is an 8-inch touchscreen. Higher trims add navigation with real-time traffic and weather. The layout also includes physical controls, USB ports, and Bluetooth, but it lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 and CVT are tuned with fuel economy in mind, and the drivetrain can be switched to 2-wheel drive for better fuel economy.

Which 2017 Nissan Pathfinder trim should I buy?

The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value starting point if you want the Pathfinder’s core space, standard 8-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, three-zone climate control, and basic convenience features without paying for extras.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like remote start, fog lights, backup sensors, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift-knob.
• SL: Choose this if you want a more upscale family SUV, since it adds the 360-degree camera, leather seating, heated front and rear seats, blind-spot warning, and the motion-activated liftgate.
• Platinum: This is the pick if you want the most comfort and tech, including navigation, a panoramic moonroof, heated and cooled front seats, and adaptive cruise control.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, and the available driver-assistance features become more comprehensive as you move up the trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Nissan Pathfinder?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you have room to shop carefully and still find a solid deal.

• Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 837 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,680, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder's resale value?

The current average of $10,680 sits slightly below last year's $11,508.

That price movement suggests the model has softened, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the vehicle in good condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. The Pathfinder’s broad family appeal and roomy layout should still help it attract shoppers later, especially if it remains clean and well maintained.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder safe?

The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder earns five-star ratings from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front and side impact airbags, Vehicle Dynamics Control with traction control, front and rear crumple zones, LATCH child-seat anchors, tire pressure monitoring, and Easy-Fill Tire Alert. Optional safety tech includes forward-collision warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert, and the Platinum trim adds forward-collision-avoidance and adaptive cruise control.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 brings a refreshed look, a stronger 284-horsepower V6, and a well-rounded family-hauler setup.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,508, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,680 average.
• It is practical and easy to live with.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more refined Pathfinder, the 2017 is the stronger pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path, especially if you can find one in clean condition.
