What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford F-150?

At 69.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of the truck’s body, suspension, and undercarriage. Because this model is often used for demanding driving, condition matters as much as mileage. Focus on signs of off-road wear, accident repairs, and any evidence that the truck has been modified or heavily worked.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Raptor’s unique improvements include custom-designed 35-inch tires, a beefed-up Fox Racing suspension, and a torque-on-demand transfer case, while the base truck lacks those specialized off-road pieces.
• Powertrain: The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 makes 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque, and the 10-speed transmission helps keep highway revs low.
• Safety package: Standard blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic and trailer coverage, adaptive cruise with collision mitigation, lane-keep with warning and intervention, and auto wipers and high-beams are part of the available technology package.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, and it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 15 mpg city, 18 mpg highway, and 16 mpg combined.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.68/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It returns with the Raptor on a new platform and a 450-hp twin-turbo V6.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $18,893, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $21,331 average.
• It leans hard into luxury with a more upscale feel.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $23,911, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $21,331 average.
• It is a more well-rounded everyday truck with standout towing and fuel economy.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive off-road-focused version, the 2017 is the one to target. If price matters most, the 2016 is the cheaper path, while the 2018 makes sense if you want a broader all-around pickup and are willing to pay more.
