FAQs
Picture of 2011 Jaguar XJ-Series It's uniquely luxurious without being gaudy. It delivers brawny power and tight handling without sacrificing pristine comfort. And the brand new 2011 Jaguar XJ-Series is loaded with the latest technology, designed with a modern feel, and the most forward-looking Jaguar yet without losing touch with its classic British heritage. Viewed from the front, the 2011 XJ-Series is clearly a Jaguar, which makes sense since the four-door luxury sedan is the company’s flagship vehicle. But move to the side and rear and you’ll notice the updates that depart from the Jaguar norm – the high-and-tight beltline, the sleekly narrow windows, the high, short trunk that has an air of French opulence, the flowing hood lines leading to the more-familiar cab-rearward design that leaves the XJ-Series looking like a living, breathing great cat sitting on its haunches with deadly calm. The new XJ-Series is available in six trim levels with three engines and two wheelbase lengths. The Base XJ-Series comes with a direct-injection 5.0-liter V8 that produces 385 horsepower and goes from 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. The XJ-Series Supercharged gets 470 horsepower out of the V8 with the use of forced air and gets to 60 in 4.9 seconds. And the XJ-Series Supersport, available by special order only, cranks the horsepower up to 510 and drops the 0-60 time to 4.7 seconds. All three engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and offer steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. And all three trim levels are available with the short wheelbase or the long wheelbase, which adds 5.3 inches to the car’s length. The short Base XJ-Series trim gets 19 combined mpg, and the long Base XJ-Series gets 18 combined mpg. The Supercharged and Supersport get 17 combined mpg regardless of length. Compared to other luxury sedans, those are very efficient numbers. The exterior styling may not appeal to some, but it’s hard to imagine anyone not enjoying a ride in the XJ-Series. The transmission smoothly directs the car’s ample power to the rear wheels, allowing for rapid yet comfortable acceleration. The speed-sensitive variable-ratio power rack and pinion steering is ultra quick and gives the driver detailed maneuvering control. A simple knob turn can shift the suspension of your XJ-Series into three driving modes – Standard, Dynamic, and Winter. The Dynamic setting is firm and allows for automated manual paddle shifting and spirited driving. The softer Standard setting handles rough road surfaces with a typically British calm and grace. Even if you’re not adjusting the ride, the XJ-Series is doing it for you with its self-leveling rear air suspension. The XJ-Series' cabin also represents new territory for Jaguar. It is much more spacious than previous offerings, yet the lowered dash imbues that extra space with an intimate feel. The cabin bristles with technology and advances, a departure from the more traditional Jaguar cabins of the past. There is an 8-inch touch screen with audio, climate, Bluetooth, and navigation controls. The gauges are digital graphics displayed on a 12.3-inch thin-film-transistor screen, but they look like analog dials. When the “needle” on one of the gauges passes below a number, it glows brighter with what Jaguar calls a “torch effect.” And the gauges all turn red when the car is in Dynamic mode. The Base XJ-Series comes standard with cruise control, dual-zone air conditioning, HDD-based navigation system, remote start and entry, programmable garage door opener, perimeter alarm with anti-theft engine immobilizer, electrochromic rear-view mirror, heated and cooled front seats with three-position memory (16-way power-adjustable driver seat and 12-way power passenger seat), leather upholstered dash trim, panoramic power glass roof, electrochromic heated and power-folding exterior mirrors with memory and puddle lamps and 19-inch “Aleutian” 10-spoke alloy wheels with P245/45R19 front tires and P275/40R19 rear tires. The XJ-Series Supercharged upgrades with four-zone climate control, 20-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with massage, power-adjustable rear window sunblind, and 20-inch Kasuga 10-spoke alloy wheels with P245/40R20 front and P275/35R20 rear tires. The XJ-Series Supersport gets heated and cooled semi-aniline leather rear seats, front and rear premium leather-trimmed floor mats with the Supersport logo, oak veneer interior trim with linear inlay, metallic foot pedals, and 20-inch “Mataiva” five-spoke alloy wheels with P245/40R20 front tires and P275/35R20 rear tires. The three longer-wheelbase trims are designed with chauffered driving in mind, as they all add rear business trays (like those in an airplane), power-adjustable rear window sunblind, manual rear side sunblinds, and illuminated rear vanity mirrors. The XJ-Series L (the longer version of the Base trim) also adds heated and cooled soft-grain leather rear seats, four-zone climate control, and the 20-way adjustable driver’s seat with memory.

OMG!!! this is a thing of beauty, due to it exquisite looks and styling!.. I have the xjl long body.. it is so nimble for a vehicle this size. The handling is so precise. Very powerful engine. The interior is so luxurious!., almost just short of a Bentley interior. This car offers so many amenities, way past an Audi, Benz or BMW interior. I love this car!

I used this car for business, I am an executive chauffeur and this car looks the part for the job! I get a lot of excited comments equally from my customers as well as from passers-by. The new 2011 sleek design and unusual lines it this category makes it stand out from the crowd like nuffing else. Interior is typically 'Jagur-ish' nothing too fancy, nothing too ordinary, again just enough to tastefully stand out. Great dvd display, excellent sound system. 280 bhp + 600(!)Nm speaks for itself. This car drives and handles like a GTi car, you don't feel the size of it from the inside at all! It can be challenging to park thou, mine had only rear park sensors. The breaks are very good, perhaps even too good, it takes some getting used to their edginess and how quickly they react... Build quality lets the car down big time in my opinion, my car had lots of squeaks and rattles inside, mostly from the back seats and sun roof area. If they could focus on eliminating those this could be a really nice car to own, but until then it is nowhere near a German car like MB or BMW. One time the power steering bottle came loose (!) starving the pump of fluid and nearly damaging it. Turned out to be a quick fix, nevertheless it seems that this area needs addressing as this could be a nasty surprise when power steering stops working half-way through a corner. Pretty thirsty, I only managed some 23-25mpg on congested London streets, but its quite good on the motorway. Aluminium body reduces the cars weight to just some 1800kg so if you have a gentle right foot I'm sure you can top me up easily on the other hand if your foot is as heavy as mine you might even get less mpg out of it. As I mentioned earlier, this car is an absolute dream to drive. Pneumatic fully computerised suspension does all the hard work for you, you can choose normal, dynamic or winter mode. When you switch it into Dynamic mode, the dials start glowing RED everything sharpens up and tightens nicely. You can additionally select the S mode on the gearbox which alters the maps for the computer to change gears al higher rpm, makes the car more responsive etc. You can also change gears manually via. paddle-shift on the steering wheel at any time (loads of fun but only in S mode they react as they should, other modes generate some considerable delay). Winter mode came in handy when it snowed few weeks ago. In normal settings the car hardly moved, the esp computer was going crazy, preventing whhels from spinning it generated no traction or enough grip to get it moving. After selecting winter mode the car changed its settings (noticeably different gearing and different torque level used) and just carried on as it normally would, great stuff. Not enough snow in England though to test this properly thou. All in all a really wonderfully designed car with a little character. If you can forgive him some of his minor faults you should be really pleased with it, esp. when you notice all the looks it gets when you drive it :)

This top-of-the-line 2011 Jaguar XJL is about the most luxurious full size vehicle Jaguar makes. I would be proud to own it. Its a beautiful vehicle. Good luck to the new owner.
