The 2009 Buick LaCrosse midsize sedan drops its CXS trim this year, leaving the base CX, CXL, and performance-oriented Super. The front-wheel-drive LaCrosse offers loads of luxury standard features, appealing to an older crowd focused on smooth handling and quiet comfort. Both the CX and CXL are powered by a 200-hp, 3.8-liter DOHC V6, while the Super gets a 300-hp, 5.3-liter V8 with 323 ft-lbs of torque. Both engines come matched with a 4-speed automatic. Fuel economy averages 20/29 mpg in the V6 and 16/24 in the V8. The sedan seats up to six passengers, with front and rear cupholders and rear climate control. All trims come with traction control, ABS brakes, automatic headlights, OnStar, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags. The base CX starts out with plenty of power features, including remote start, programmable keyless entry, and a power driver's seat, while the CXL mainly adds leather upholstery. The upscale trappings extend to the dash and consoles, which are covered in leather, wood, and alloy accents. The Super takes all the options for the other two trims and makes them standard, such as stability control, parking sensors, a power passenger seat, and upgraded leather. In addition to the extra engine power (0-60 in 5.7 seconds), the Super spruces up the exterior with sporty features such as a rear spoiler, chrome exhaust, foglights, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
