Used Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder for Sale near Arizona
With little changed for 2005, this two door, four (almost) seat roadster comes in three flavors: GS, GT, and GTS. The GS comes with a 147-hp 4L engine that mates to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The GT and GTS performance options feature a 3.0-liter V6 that spins out 210-hp and mates with either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.
Naturally, reviewers preferred the V6 models for their sportier performance. However, they did not enjoy the small back seats, which one owner even claimed are for insurance purposes only! Standard safety equipment includes front airbags, front side-impact airbags and front-seat side curtain airbags. The standard ABS brakes feature Electronic Brake-force Distribution, which balances front/back brake force allocation in emergency stops. Gas mileage: city â?? 20-23 mpg; highway â?? 29-31 mpg. One owner claimed 31.2 mpg highway with the 4 cylinder.
Most owners cited the Spyderâ??s high fun to low cost factor as the most significant reason for buying it. Most praised the lack of wind buffeting with the top down. Yet, there was little praise for the interior design and some criticism of the carâ??s lack luster handling. The V6 performs smoothly providing a comfortable overall ride, but reviewers and owners felt that the handling has been toned down compared to past models.

(6 reviews)Poor visibility out rear window. Not laden down with power
car sits a little too low to ground for ME !!! wide turning radius Bad , great gas mileage 29hwy@70mph !! , low cost for vehicle repairs , great looks, braking/ acceleration great, handling good, i drive mostly hwy long runs, radio sounds great even with top down !!, tilt wheel/ cc is a must, ALL must have rear glass removable defroster window,
mine got awful gas mileage, performance was awful, was a decent looking car, loved the convertible top, dont miss this car at all....was an expensive car without alot of the perks. would never buy another one. Have a great day.
Car has been modified. Engine makes around 245hp now, and gas mileage averages between 23 in town to 34 on the freeway (if 100% hwy miles). Gorgeous bodywork, Lots of fun to dirve. Needs more work before Im completely satisfied
I bought my UV blue pearl Spyder GT in August 05 and have only recently broken 50k miles on it. I haven't had a single problem yet-a real testiment to the reliability of these cars compared to the 2nd generation Eclipse. Regarding performance, which is often complained about when comparing the old v.s. the new, is not a beast but the engine and clutch are very smooth and the power that the engine does make comes on in a very linear fashion, and unlike other convertibles made at the same time or near the same cost as the Eclipse Spyder, the engine actually produces a good amount of torque throughout the powerband and one need not rev the engine up to 6k or more in order to feel a surge. In my car, I have improved it performance with several modifications that I have done including intake, exhaust, manifold/throttle body phenolic kit, ignition work and an ECU reflash allowing the car to make around 245hp. I have also swapped out lighter rims and better tires and taken some weight off (Spyders are heavier compared to other convertibles). Now the car is very fun to drive. When the top down there is very little wind buffetting and on a 100% freeway trip, I have actually managed to get 33.5 mpg from the V6. Very impressive indeed. My only complaints are several creaks, and rattles that are heard in the cabin from time to time, the brakes could have been better as mine didn't come with ABS standard, the shifter could have been a little less notchy and interior could have been a little better. I would recommend this car to a friend if they wanted a car that will turn heads and is enjoyable to to drive along with being reliable and not costing a fortune to fill up or maintain. If you plan on modifying the car, there are very few forced induction options and if you are in an area with emissions testing, it is a difficult sell due to the fact that all models made after 2001 came with california emissions specifications (2 precats, and 1 main catalytic converter that choke exhaust flow), it will be impossible to run street legal headers. Your best bet is to do the same mods that I did along with a mild nitrous setup and reduce weight and enjoy a car that has potential to hit 60 in less than 6.5 seconds and run low 14's in the 1/4 mile. Like I said, its not a racecar but can be a blast to drive regardless.
