The fastest Buick on the market says goodbye this year, as Buick gets set to revamp and modernize its sedan lineup. As such, the 2004 Buick Regal gets some minor tweaks this year, including new wood interior trim and an upgraded audio system.

At 0-60 in less than seven seconds, the 2004 Regal GS is the sporty sibling to the base LS. Both have a 3.8-liter V6 and a 4-speed auto tran, but where the LS hits 195-hp, the GS delivers a commanding 240-hp with 280 lb-ft of torque. It also comes with a stiffer suspension, larger 16-inch wheels, a rear stabilizer bar, ABS brakes, dual front and side airbags, and traction control, all of which can be added to the LS. Loaded with features, the LS is a comfortable, energetic, and roomy family car, with a 16.7 cubic foot trunk. Rear seats do not fold down, but this can be added as an option. For a little more excitement behind the wheel, the GS adds leather seats, a CD player, wheel-mounted controls, auto-dimming mirrors, and power front seats. Heated seats and mirrors and a sunroof are extra. A Joseph Abboud-designed appearance package updates the interior and exterior with two-tone paint and trim, upgraded leather, and a standard sunroof.

Owners are sad to see the reliable 2004 Regal go. They love the GS power and acceleration, which surprises sportier looking cars on the road as you pass them buy. Other highlights include the effortless handling, large trunk, good gas mileage, and long list of standard equipment. But the Regal hasn't had an update in seven years, and it's beginning to show, especially on the interior materials, which owners say looks cheap. Seat support could be better, as could the inconvenient placement of the front cupholders. Rear legroom is cramped, and the 2004 Regal doesn't not retain much resale value.
