Otherwise, the 2001 S-Series maintains the same 6 trims from 2000: the 3 door SC1 and SC2 coupes, SW2 wagon, and SL, SL1, and SL2 sedans. All trims have standard 5 speed manual transmission. In addition, all trims except the SL have an option for 4 speed automatic. The SL, SL1, and SC1 have a 1.9 L, 100 hp I4 engine while the SL2, SC2, and SW2 go with a modified 124 hp version. Sedans and wagons seat 5 while coupes seat 4. Gas mileage across trims generally goes from 27 mpg in the city to 38 mpg on the highway. Cargo space ranges from 11.4 cubic feet in coupes to 12.1 in sedans to 24.9 in wagons. Air conditioning comes standard in the SC2, SL2, and SW2, optional in the SL, SL1, and SC1. Saturn S-Series owners have always prioritized functionality and good gas mileage over comfort. Reviewers have issues with interior space, engine noise, and rattling. Despite the lingering concerns, Saturn has created a niche for itself as a budget-conscious company that gives its consumers a good deal. Don't expect that to change in the near future.
