Excellent daily driver if one does not have an extended commute. Fuel economy is great, (I've achieved 42 mpg on several tanks with the AT in summer temps), and reliability has been fantastic. We've owned this vehicle for 4 years now and have done nothing to it short of changing the oil and tires and replacing the fuel tank inlet line, which had rusted through. Surprisingly enough, the Metro is a champ in the snow, cutting through 8-12 inches with no problems. The hatchback offers better cargo capacity for bulky items than would a trunk, making the hatchback trim a more versatile option. Power is an issue, particulary if there is a passenger or two in the car, meaning careful planning when driving in traffic is a must. Accessories are nil, as power and tilt steering are both absent. The front tires tend to wear quickly, even with new tie rod ends and an alignment, but they're cheap ($60) to replace. This is a great car when used as a means to an end. My wife and I picked ours up on the cheap to replace my wife's (fiance at the time) Tempo, after the transmission had failed. The Metro was all that we could afford at the time, while we were saving for our wedding. Since then we have saved a large sum due to the excellent fuel economy of the Metro and have continued to drive it while we seek to pay off the mortgage on our first home. We hope to upgrade to less spartan vehicles once we are debt-free, and once kids come along, the two door Metro will have to be retired regardless.
