Toyota discontinued the sexy coupe from the 1999 Celica lineup, leaving only the hatchback and the convertible. Due for a redesign the following year, the 1999 Celica saw no additional changes.
Both the hatchback and the convertible came in the GT trim level only. They both came with a 2.2-liter, 135-horsepower engine. Fuel economy was about 22/30 mpg.
Drivers love the look and handling of their 1999 Toyota Celicas, and they appreciate the Toyota-quality engine. Drivers have few complaints, but those that do say the back seat is too small for most passengers, and many wish the car had more power.
4.4 Overall rating
(10 reviews)Excellent drive, good acceleration, 100% reliable, never had a fault with the celica
When I bought this car, I was just under 21. As it was a category G car, the insurers had to have their arms twisted to insure me on it, but boy was it worth it! The performance and handling, etc are the best of any car that I have owned. I would still go out and buy this car tomorrow and I absolutely regret selling it, but it just cost too much to run. The only reason I sold it was because of rising petrol costs (got up to £1.27 per litre!). Given that this car does around 20mpg, it cost far too much to run. A great car and I would recommend anyone to get one!
My celica turns everyones heads and cant fault the looks, also getting 190 bhp out of a 1800cc without a turbo is typical japanese genius! the car does suffer from understeer specially wen hitting the vtec while conering so takes a lot of getting use to! my car averages 38mpg thanks to its 6 speed box!
Better to look at than it is to drive
I had found a 1999 Toyota Celica hatchback with 20,000 miles on it. This is a very good vehicle that can go well over 300,000 miles if not more. Rock solid. Just hate it sold before I could work out logistics to pick it up half way across the country.
