When i crashed in it the new front bumper, drivers side wing + grill all came off scrap cars! was great parts were easy to find and fit myself ( with considerable help from Sam! thanks mate!) Had no major problems with this car, just didnt like the colour or the brown plastic interior! hence my next car being the Saab 93!
This car had been tweaked and had a few modifications when I bought it. The acceleration was excellent and it seemed to have a good top speed also. The brakes were also spot on which was excellent as you needed them with this car. The build quality wasn't bad, although by the time I got this car it had been severely put through its paces. I ended up getting rid of the car after the engine gave out. Cylinder Head Gasket I believe was what finally killed this one. It was quite a nice looking car and I don't think the photo's really do it justice. The side skirts and the eyelids on the front lights made a nice difference.
I just love this car. It makes me happy to drive it ;) If you haven`t drove one yet you should definately do. It is so easy you can just sit back relax and enjoy the ride. The performance is overall but support is cheap and easy to do alone.
This model is Renault 19 1.8 16v, which is the sport version of that model. It gives 137 hp, top speed 212 km/h and 8,5 s 0-100 km/h. Torque is a bit low but overall performance is on a good level. The engine needs revs to have some power. Rust is a problem with these cars, so you have to check the car well if you're buying one. Seats, suspension and steering gives you a sporty feeling, and it's nice to drive on a small, paved road.
I bought my R19 in 2006 as my first own car when it had 140k kilometers on the clock. Now after two years there is over 160k and no problems with it. I consider myself very lucky because the biggest extra cost has been the renewal of the windshield which took 200 euros. Quite a nice car to handle and to drive on long distance trips despite it's moderate level of tire noise inside. Of course this car is getting old.. no fancy power steering or electric window openers or airbags or central locks etc.. but hey now there's less stuff to break! Especially when talking about french cars which are supposed to be having problems with electricity... :P Seems like a perfect car for me for now because it was cheap to buy and its cheap to maintain. Simple technology which i can service mostly by myself with Haynes' service manual and some basic tools. ;)
