The 1992 Mercedes-Benz 400-Class offered exactly what you'd expect from the venerable automaker -- and that's just about everything, including a powerful 4.2-liter V8 engine that pumped out 268 hp. Obviously, this was a car mean to be driven, and gas mileage was not something you worried about.
Both the 400E and the 400SE sedans came with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment included anti-lock brakes, a driver's-side airbag, power windows, power door locks, and air conditioning. Cruise control, automatic climate control, power steering, headlight cleaners, an anti-theft alarm system, power seats, and alloy wheels were also included as standard features or available as options.

(6 reviews)Bought the car at auction to find out it was a very limited production model and have fixed all the Mercedes design flaws and slowly restoring it to original condition. I runs fantastic with the handling of sports car while looking like a family car. I love this thing.
I couldn't believe this was so clean. It was stored properly for 15 years. 143k soft miles, I ran it up to 147 mph and it ran cool and strong, I had more pedal to go, but slowed down it was a little spooky to go that far. It was a open private road in the high desert area.
this was my first car.. i picked it up off some idiot who didnt know what he had.. he sold it to me for 500 because he thought it had all kinds of problems.. but it was a simple fix...
I love this car, it's big engine, it's bank-vault build quality and it's great comfort on long trips. It isn't a big car on the outside, but it is a superb highway cruiser and just as stable above 100 as it is at 60. One friend said this car showed "the economy of quality," meaning its longevity offset its original high cost of $65,000 in 1992. Best of all is that parts are easily found through Mercedes and often through outside vendors.
This car is much faster than it looks. Its very comfortable and easy to drive as well. Its also stable at high speed. Everything is high quality, but this particular example wasn't taken care of by the previous owner and it shows. Maintenance is also expensive.
