Used 1988 Jeep Cherokee for Sale near Seattle, WA
Thanks to its rugged construction, tough Quadra-Link Suspension, and reputation for reliability, the 1988 Jeep Cherokee continued to hang onto its niche in the ever-growing compact SUV market. A tough, reliable vehicle for passenger and business use, the '88 Cherokee was a strong seller in the US, as well as increasingly popular in the international market.
Some of the features that had made earlier SJ-Series Cherokees so popular with the off-road set remained in the XJ-Series Cherokee. High ground clearance and rugged four-wheel drive took the 1988 Cherokee over a variety of terrains with ease; its hefty metal construction enabled it to brave the elements and the wilderness.
The previous year's introduction of a new fuel-injected inline-6 proved to be a boon to the Cherokee's popularity. The '88 Jeep Cherokee shipped off the line with a 2.5 liter AMC inline-4, clocked at 121 horsepower; as of this model year, buyers could upgrade to a new 4.0 liter AMC fuel-injected inline-6, which put out a healthy 173 horsepower.

Car is not viable for on road use. Welded rear gears ( Lincoln lock).
All around amazing Jeep and fun to work on. Almost all years and parts are interchangeable. The development of auto lock ups was a big improvement in the 90's over the air actuated locks that I had on this. I replaced mine with axles off a 2000 Cherokee. Parts are easy to find and easy to replace. Most have some similar quarky little issues that can easily be fixed and most do not affect the Jeeps ability to run or drive. You just might not know how much gas you have or your oil pressure. Ride is rough but they are hard to break. Even after I ran mine into a guard rail and sold it off with 260k miles on it, it is still being driven today. These are very basic but amazingly well built functional JEEPS. They do what you need them to do and are great for modifying and rebuilding. My I6 still ran after I blew the heads and cracked the block. I drove it like that for 120 miles on the highway and it still started up even after it was moved to another Jeep to be sold off as a junker. Only down side is that like most older cars, these usually have a higher level of routine maintenance that is not necessary but will prolong the life beyond 300k miles. Most people looking for this kind of car will fall in love with any 1988-2001 Jeep cherokee.
Did everything in this car. Family car, long trips, modest off-roading, snow vehicle, it did it all. Built very solid and gave a smooth ride. The 4.0 straight 6 was awesome! Easy to maintain and reliable. It was an awesome vehicle. Loved it!
I love my jeep, its given me days of fun and enjoyment. its a V6 so its not that powerful, but it has 4 wheel drive. it is a fun car to drive. i wish i had a mustang. dang.
