Overview

The 1986 Jeep Comanche was a pickup truck spinoff of AMC's popular Jeep Cherokee compact SUV. Impressive as an engineering achievement (incorporating a cargo bed into the Cherokee's unibody construction was no small feat), the Comanche nonetheless never quite captured its expected market share.
Buyers had a choice of three engines for the '86 Jeep Comanche. Most buyers stuck with the 2.5 liter AMC inline-4, which clocked at 121 horsepower; some chose (and Heaven only knows why) the 2.8 liter GM 60-Degree V6, which delivered just 117 horsepower and 150 lb.-ft. of torque; and almost nobody in the US wanted the third option, the Renault 2.1 liter inline-4 turbodiesel.
When it came to styling, the '86 Comanche was envisioned as a rugged, sporty compact truck. Cabin comforts were minimal, and there were few frills available as options on the 1986 Comanche.
