Overview

It's a Pontiac and it looks kind of square and fuddy-duddyish, maybe something you wouldn't want to be seen in on a Saturday night cruising jaunt, but the 1984 Pontiac 6000 was actually quite a little performance sedan, surprising owners with its roomy interior for five and powerful engine.
In 1984, the 6000 came as both a base and LE sedan and 2-door coupe. An STE sedan, was the performance version, with a high output 2.8-liter, 140-hp V6 engine and sports-tuned suspension and wheels. New in the 1984 6000 is a wagon. Also new, the STE sedan offered a digital Driver Information Center, which alerted drivers about such things as scheduled maintenance checks, low fluid levels, and open doors.
The 1984 Pontiac 6000 seems to be a well-loved car for its engine power and immediate acceleration. It turns out to be a great highway cruiser, comfortable, relaxed, and easy to handle, according to owners. The interior is spacious enough for five, parts are easy to find, and with proper maintenance, the 6000 lasts forever. There were few complaints, beyond peeling paint and difficulties with cold starts in the winter.

This was a fantastic car, aside from the 3-speed transmission that lost all forward gears the second day I had it. The bucket seats and full center console were a nice bonus, as was the Landau Roof.

A typical 1980s American car. Lousy handling in any weather. Anemic 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, well under 100 hp. Nothing the slightest bit interesting about the styling. The only good thing I can say about it is that it's a great car for a reckless teenager. I was one of those when I had this car. I once got it up to 85mph, but that was downhill with a tailwind. Reliability was not the worst, but not great either. Transmission needed a couple replacements. Various other faults... in the end the car lasted until about 1994, so it wasn't that bad, I guess.
