A note on the car when I got it,the front end was smashed on the right front lower control arm mount,totalled,so she parked it at a shop for 4 yrs,well I got it,was working at the volvo dealer,knew a volvo salvage yard legend,got a 66' crossmember out of a rear ended 1800s,and rebuilt the entire front and rear suspension,which left me with a good driving badly faded gold 1800e,so after saving up 3'000 dol.,back when I was unmarried and nuf said, got it painted stopsign red,1990 mercedes 450sl color,drove this car for another 12 yrs,gave it back to my mom,and she still has it,in storage,needs another round of TLC,that will be for later,fast enough,and very good car.As far as performance goes,it would flat haul ass whenever you might want to,or get 30 mpg when the fuel system was newer,eventually I freshened up the rings and main/rod brgs and put a 2bbl with Ipd intake,made it much more docile and reliable,built like a tank for a small car,sure was fun!

My 1971 Volvo 1800E had been sadly abused before I rescued it. It had Volvo's unfortunate mechanical fuel-injection, which was so universally loved that the only other owner I knew who had one had ripped it out and installed a traditional carburetor instead. Once reclining behind the wheel, however, the car was a blast to drive, even if the overdrive did have to be engaged from the first gear in order to work at all. It drove well, moved nimbly for a mini-tank, and definitely got noticed more than any other car I've owned, before or since. One of my few regrets about living in Europe for a year was that I had to sell my 1800E. I loved that car and would love to one day have another, preferably prior to the introduction of the mechanical fuel injection.

I love my little 1800. Stylish and sporty, its a labor of love and a sink hole in money, but I can't imagine ever parting with it. It gets decent gas mileage and it is a great highway car but oh man is it a pain to sit in traffic in.
