2009 Mitsubishi Lancer ES Sport

After a complete makeover in 2008 that featured a new platform - Mitsubishi's Outlander crossover SUV - Mitsubishi recorded its best global retail sales in four years with a 15% increase. The ES Sport represents the midlevel trim of the Lancer lineup with some added exterior sporty bits.  

An all-aluminum 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 152 hp (9 hp less in California) and 146 ft-lbs of torque powers the ES level. The engine features 16 valves and MIVEC, Mitsubishi's variable timing system, on both intake and exhaust cams. Power is transmitted through a five-speed manual transmission or an optional continuously variable automatic transmission to the front wheels. The drivetrain is rated at 22/30 mpg.

The Lancer cabin seats five comfortably and retains its upscale appearance from the 2008 makeover. The ES is equipped with all the standard equipment of the base DE - power windows and mirrors, a tilt-only steering wheel, a trip computer, and a four-speaker CD/MP3 stereo - and adds 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, steering-wheel audio controls, manual driver's seat height adjustment, upgraded upholstery, and a 60/40-split rear seat with center armrest.

The Sport package adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, foglights, front and side airdams, a large rear spoiler, and an exhaust finisher.

Standard safety features include front seat side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags with a driver knee airbag, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. ABS with brakeforce distribution and daytime running lights are standard as well.
