2008 Ford Edge SEL Summary

A step up from the entry-level SE trim, the 2008 Ford Edge SEL adds such features as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a message center with a trip computer and compass, and an upgraded AM/FM/CD audio system to the standard equipment list. The Edge SEL also comes with the Convenience Group package, which includes automatic headlights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an illuminated door entry keypad.

New options for 2008 include a power liftgate, power-folding second-row seats, and the Ford Sync, a wireless interior communications system that enables drivers to use voice commands to manage the navigation system and make cellphone calls. A Panoramic Vista Roof, a DVD rear entertainment system, and a DVD-based navigation system are some of the other options available.

A 265-horsepower, 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V6 engine drives the Edge SEL. The engine was designed to provide both performance and fuel efficiency. It's linked to a six-speed automatic transmission with two overdrive gears, which further help improve fuel efficiency.

An independent suspension, MacPherson struts, antilock brakes, and an AdvanceTrac system with Roll Stability Control provide good traction, stability, and handling. The Edge SEL also offers ample cargo space, especially with the rear seats folded flat. Overall, drivers and reviewers give the Edge SEL good marks, except for its brakes, which don't provide the stopping power they should for a vehicle in this class, according to recent tests.
