Perhaps the only crossover to get from 0-60 in under six seconds, the 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8 uses its size and standard features to appeal to families looking for a car-like wagon, and its performance-tuned suspension, exhaust, tires, and 6.1-liter, 425-hp Hemi V8 to appeal to drivers who also crave a bit of fun on open roads. The engine is matched to a 5-speed shiftable automatic and boasts 420 lb-ft of torque.
The rear-wheel drive crossover comes standard with 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, a fully independent suspension, traction and stability control, a tire-pressure monitor, and electronic brakeforce distribution. The SRT8 also features a self-leveling suspension for more responsive performance. Big brakes, strong sway bars, and large 20-inch alloy wheels with performance tires grip the road, and dual front airbags keep front passengers safe. Side curtain airbags can be added for both rows. Foglights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and automatic headlights are also standard. A large front air dam and rear spoiler aid performance and look cool.
Carbon-fiber trim, leather/suede sport seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel lend an air of sporty authenticity inside the 2008 Magnum SRT8. Going beyond the R/T, it boosts the power passenger seat to eight settings, matching the driver's seat, and offers a 6-CD changer, trip computer, and temperature display. Heated mirrors, full power setup with one-touch power windows, wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls for the CD/MP3 player, satellite radio, dual-zone climate control, intermittent front and rear wipers, remote entry, and a garage-door opener are all standard.
Rear seats sit higher than the front row, feature a fold-down armrest/console, and split-fold 60/40 to expand the 27-cubic-foot cargo area to 72. Options include a navigation system, DVD player and satellite TV (with remote and wireless headphones), remote start, heated seats, xenon headlamps, and a sunroof. A roof rack is also available, along with a cargo organizer.
