A performance-oriented CUV, the 2008 Dodge Magnum Base also offers hauling capacity and suits family needs. Engine power starts with a 2.7-liter, 190-hp DOHC V6 and 4-speed automatic with overdrive, but you can beef it up with either a 3.5-liter, 250-hp V6 or a 5.4-liter, 340-hp Hemi V8. The rear-wheel-drive crossover seats up to five people in two rows, with more than 40 inches of legroom in front and back. Rear seats sit higher for improved passenger visibility. Standard safety features on the Base trim include 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, a tire-pressure monitor, 17-inch wheels with all-season tires, and dual front airbags. New side curtain bags are optional, along with daytime running lights and foglights. 18-inch tires are available with the stronger engines.
More aggressive exterior trimmings and sporty improvements to the dash attempt to add more sophistication to the wagon, and you can add body-colored moldings and a chrome grille. Standard equipment includes cruise control, full power features, a tachometer, tilt and telescopic steering, intermittent front and rear wipers, a security system, privacy glass, remote entry, and a CD/MP3 player with an additional MP3 input. Rear passengers get cupholders and a fold-down armrest, and the seats split and fold 60/40, expanding the 27-cubic-foot trunk's capacity to 72 cubic feet. Tie-downs are standard, and a hard cover is available. A roof rack can be added for more storage space. Outside, the 2008 Magnum Base features a rear spoiler and front air dam. Options include heated mirrors, satellite radio, an 8-way power driver's seat, power adjustable pedals, and a CD changer and DVD player.
