2008 Subaru Outback 2.5 i

A step up from the Outback Basic trim, the 2008 Subaru Outback 2.5i adds an eight-way power-adjustable heated driver's seat, heated exterior side mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer to its list of standard features.

A 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine powers the Outback 2.5i. Subaru mounts the engine longitudinally on the chassis, which results in a lower center of gravity and better overall balance. The engine links to a standard fully synchronized five-speed manual transmission or an optional four-speed automatic transmission with Sportshift manual control.

Symmetrical all-wheel drive also comes standard on the Outback 2.5i. Trims equipped with the five-speed manual have continuous all-wheel drive, which features a viscous-type locking center differential to distribute power to the wheels with the most traction, while trims with the automatic transmission feature active all-wheel drive, which uses an electronically controlled variable transfer clutch to distribute power where traction is needed.
