[Edit] A 270-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 engine powers the 2008 Toyota Highlander Limited. The V6 links to a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with sequential shift and a Snow Mode. The EPA rates gas mileage at 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg at highway speeds.
Other standard features include antilock brakes, traction control, brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic power steering, and a new feature called enhanced vehicle stability control. The Highlander is also the first Toyota vehicle with active head restraints and a new hood and fender designed to crumple on impact with a pedestrian.
The midsize SUV features a Center Stow seat, which can be hidden beneath the front console when not in use, used as a center console between the two middle seats, or unfolded so the vehicle can carry seven passengers. In addition, both the second and third rows can be folded down to create a flat cargo area. A rear glass hatch provides quick access to the back.
The Limited version also features a Smart Start and Entry system, as well as a stand-alone backup camera with a multi-information screen, which is not tied to a navigation system.
Toyota notes that the Highlander will be loaded with standard features, while options will include leather trim, heated seats, a 9-speaker JBL sound system with a CD changer, and a tow package with 5,000 pounds of maximum towing capacity.
