The X-Type sedan is the entry-level offering in Jaguar's 2007 model lineup. For this year, a power moon roof and stability control have been added to the list of standard features.
Measuring over a foot shorter and weighing 500 pounds lighter than the XJs, the X-Type sedan provides Jaguar with a small to mid-size option. It is priced to compete with models like the BMW 3-Series, Lexus IS, and Mercedes C-Class. Unfortunately, performance falls short of much of the competition.
The X-Type sedan is powered by a 3.0 liter DOHC V-6, which is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The X-Types are the only Jaguars where a V-8 can not be found. The engine provides 227 horsepower and 206 pound-feet of torque; enough power to send the X from 0 to 60 mph in about eight seconds. Jaguar's Traction-4 AWD system is the only drive train.
The X-Type is unmistakably a Jaguar, with a leather-finished and wood-rich interior. A Luxury Package is available to better align this model with its higher priced kin. Because the X-Type sees such a departure from other Jaguar models with respect to pricing, Ford's engineering influence is more apparent here.
