The Toyota RAV4 has been completely redesigned for this model year, now entering its third generation.  For 2006, Toyota does away with the Corolla platform, adding a longer wheelbase and more interior room.  A third row of seating is available, but it is best suited for children.  The RAV4 series is the lowest priced of all Toyota SUVs.

The RAV4's base engine is a 2.4 liter inline four,  which produces 166 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque, good for towing 1500 pounds.  All 2.4L RAVs use a four speed electronically controlled automatic transmission.  This front wheel drive model will attain fuel efficiency marks of 24/30 mpg.

This base model comes equipped with power windows and door locks, cruise control, air conditioning, privacy glass, a CD player, and 16 inch wheels.  Options include daytime running lights, an in-dash CD changer, third row seating and 17 inch wheels.

The RAV competes with other small SUVs like the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Ford Escape.
