Pros4WD, 7 passenger seating ConsStock brakes are awful.

The Best In Its Class. — This vehicle is fun to drive, versatile, reliable and easy on the gas. I like that the 4WD can be switched on and off and the 7 passenger seating is convenient when I need it. It is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsGas mileage, stereo, cargo space ConsUnderpowered, cheap materials and paint job, road noise
65
Leaves A Lot To Be Desired — Compared to other Toyotas, the Rav4 is a bit of a disappointment. The interior is laden with cheap plastics and the exterior paint job is extremely thin, chipping from any and all road debris. Acceleration is terrible -- reving to 4,000 rpms going from 0-45 and still taking 10 or more seconds to do so. This car would definitely benefit from more horsepower. Brakes and steering are a little soft (but that is expected with Toyota) and road noise is pretty loud. Seats are also very stiff and begin fraying pretty easily. On the plus side, it has lots of cargo space, a decent CD/AM/FM system with aux input, and reasonable legroom as well as good gas mileage.

ProsHas been a great car!!! ConsI really can't think of any cons. It gets about 22 mpg so that could be better but it could also be worse.

Great Car Overall!! — Safe, reliable, easy to park because of size!! It's an excellent car for a college student, elderly couple, young couple, or young couple with small children. It's easy to get into due to the fact that it isn't real low and/or you don't have to climb up into it! Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsPerfect for somebody looking to save on gas and have the power of AWD. ConsNo navigation.

Stylistic Gorgeous — I like everything about it, just need a van for family comfort, 2011 XLE AWD to be exact. But the Rav4 is a car I will recommend for those people really looking to have family fun or somebody that just want to save in gas. Primary Use: Commuting to work

2006 Toyota RAV4 Base V6 Review
ProsPOWERFUL and EFFICIENT ConsBad coils that are expensive to replace & a poorly designed transmission
195
Good But Get A 2007 Or Newer. Skip The 06 — This is a fantastic vehicle overall but I recommend that if you purchase one that you buy a 2007 or newer. The 2006 was the first of it's kind and has a LOT of bugs (mainly bad coils). Also the transmission shifts strangely and soils it's fluid quickly. I expect a shorter than average lifespan for this tranny. Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsFun to drive for 30mpg highway ConsV4, Stability can't be turned off

The Rav4' — Unfortunately it's my mom's. It's got a V4 so acceleration isn't great. Decent handling. It's pretty fun to drive. Interior is very nice. 30mpg Hold's it value. It's a toyota so there aren't any major problems with it yet. Can't turn the auto 4WD/stability off. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsFun, easy to take anywhere, flat folding rear seats Cons4 cyl engine not tremendously meaty, no low range gearbox

Solid Little 4wd, Lots Of Fun — Solid build - this Rav4 was quite a nice surprise. Kate purchased in early 2008 from auction. First impression - much much larger than the older style Rav4's. Heaps of head & leg room, and a bonnet to fit a V6 also. Took it to Alice Springs, where it did a few decent day & weekend trips. Performed quite well on soft dirt/sand areas. Surprising clearance. The 2.4L 4 cyl engine is ok - this car also comes with a V6 option. V6 would be noticeably meatier, but the 4 cyl still gets the job done. Auto box works pretty well in this 4wd. Constant 4WD is great, and the differential lock button on dash has come in handy a few times. A few additions: Dirt tyres, UHF radio, front nudge bar, Rola roof racks. Still to come: darker tints, DVD player & in-dash GPS, tow ball & wiring kit. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Prosvery good on gas for a small suv Cons4 cylinder motor lacks power
25
Happy With It, But It Could Use More Power — handles okay for an suv, braking okay, accereration slow, build quality excellent, no repairs needed, no squeaks or rattles, good interior appearance, not bad looking on the outside, easy on gas, no maintenance required yet besides oil changes, its not a bad driving vehicle but its not a mustang Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsIt's really really comfortable ConsThe trunk's door is so heavy and it opens on the opposite way of the sidewalk... and there's no good lightening on the trunk, so if you want to get your things from the trunk at night... good luck.

ProsHandles quite well. ConsSuspension a little firm.

I4 Giving 27 Mpg 80% Hwy, 20% City — Traded up from a Subaru Legacy wagon, Rav4 gives more room especially in the 2nd row seating. Rear cargo area is really decent for ice chest, etc. I4 engine more than adequate power on freeway on ramps. Owner for 0 years, 5 months Miles Driven per Year:5,000 |
