2006 Chevrolet Impala SS Summary
The V8-powered SS is a new trim for 2006, replacing last year's supercharged V6 SS.
The sport-focused Impala SS upgrades to a 5.3-liter V8, which generates 303 horsepower and 323 pound-feet of torque. Other performance enhancements include a heavy-duty version of GM's four-speed automatic transmission and a slightly stiffer suspension setup. Despite its larger and significantly more potent power plant, the SS does not loss too much in the way of fuel economy compared to the V6 Impalas; the SS boasts a very reasonable EPA estimate of 18/28 mpg.
The SS is similarly equipped tot he luxury-oriented LTZ, but it gains a few exclusive aesthetic enhancements, including a rear spoiler, 18-inch wheels and a monochromatic finish.
