The LS is the base level sedan in the Cobalt lineup. The LS sedan is powered by a 2.2 liter inline four, which generates 145 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is included, while a four-speed automatic is optional.

Standard features include a CD audio system, air conditioning, a split-folding rear seat, a height-adjustable driver seat and 15-inch wheels. Options are minimal here, but antilock brakes are an available safety feature. However, the LS is the only Cobalt trim which is not available with OnStar. Despite some safety feature limitations, even this entry-level trim scored very well in crash tests.
