[Edit] 1980 was one of the few years of multiple changes in the Jeep Wagoneer line. The automatic transmission, which had previously been made by GM, was given to Chrysler. The maker of the 4 speed automatic was changed as well, and the QuadraTrak system was updated. Nothing truly major, as had been Jeep's unspoken policy towards the Wagoneer for over 15 years, but adequate. One thing Jeep did not change was the size of any of the engines. The 401 cubic inch V8 engine was still available, as was the 304 cubic inch V8 and the 258 cubic inch I-6. And of course, in addition to the transmissions that changed manufacturers, there was a 3 speed manual available, if you liked things basic.
Because Jeep changed so little from year to year in the Jeep Wagoneer, many of the parts were interchangeable across generations. Which means that the 1980 Jeep Wagoneer has 17 years of parts before it and 7 after that current owners can scrounge through if anything does break. Making the 1980 Jeep Wagoneer a very easy SUV to find parts for. With 4WD and sturdy construction, this is a safe vehicle to drive around in, either with your family in town or with your buddies in the pit. The 1980 Jeep Wagoneer will be just as happy in either place.
