A few minor touch-ups are all the changes made to the 2006 Nissan Murano. The unique-looking crossover SUV received a redesigned grille, new LED taillights, a lower front bumper, and brushed aluminum roof rails on the sportier SE trim. Inside, the color information display became standard across the line, as did MP3 capability.
Sporty and stylish, the 2006 Murano appeals to those wanting the looks and storage of an SUV, but with car-like handling. The Murano is built on a car platform and only has two rows of seats and limited trunk space, so really only its ride height bears any resemblance to an SUV. Three trims are available. The base S and SL come in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive, while the SE is AWD-only and features a sports suspension. All use the same 3.5-liter, 245-hp V6 and a CVT transmission, which transitions seamlessly between gears for a smoother ride. In the SE, the CVT comes with a manual shift mode to at least give a sportier impression.
There are only two rows of seats in the 2006 Murano, but the rear seats do recline and also fold flat. ABS, traction, and six airbags are standard, and even the base gets power features, steering wheel controls, and dual climate control. Both the SE and SL feature power front seats, a sunroof, leather seats, a rearview camera, and cargo net.
Most owners of the 2006 Murano love its look, and are surprised by the powerful and perky engine that allows this SUV to really move, due to its light weight. Handling is easy and responsive, with minimal body lean, and there is plenty of legroom. Some report a tendency to shudder and a somewhat rough ride. Visibility can be hampered out the back, and the trunk capacity is smaller than what most people want.
