New styling, new features, and more V8 power were all part of the 5-series overhaul which included a remake of the 525 in 2004. The car retained its 184-horsepower, 2.5 liter, inline six cylinder engine from previous model years a configuration which had test drivers raving about the 525i's the cars ability to go from zero to 60 in 7.7 seconds.
Drivers also liked the steering, handling and ride, and gave high marks to the 525's build quality and interior materials. Not so pleasing were the control layout (a problem which was addressed in later model years) and the 525's fuel economy.
