Buyers of the 1986 Ford F-150 had slightly fewer choices than in the previous model year. The powerful fuel-injected 5.0 liter Windsor V-8 was the only 5-liter V8 engine on offer; diesel and straight-six engines were also available.
The 86 Ford F150 came off the line in the XL, XLT, and XLT Lariat trims, with extended-cab 4-door supercab and 2-door cab setups. Extended bed models proved ideal for farm and ranch use; short beds were prized by off-road enthusiasts, who loved the versatility and rugged 4-wheel capability of the 1986 Ford F150.
The 86 Ford F-150 is a real workhorse of a pickup, and there are plenty of these durable beauties still on the streets today. Tuners love them for their baseline reliability, and you'll see them all tricked out and ready to roll. Gas mileage, though, isn't one of their selling points; you might get 18 highway, 14 city out of your 1986 Ford F-150 if you're careful!
