CarGurus' 2006 Cadillac Escalade Review

Not much changed in 2006 for the full-size SUV that needs no introduction.  The Escalade comes in 2 trims: the 2WD and the AWD.  Both trims come equipped with a 6.0 L, 345 hp V8 engine with 4 speed automatic transmission.

As for gas mileage, expect to get around 13 mpg in the city and 18 on the highway.  Both trims have 4 doors, seat 8, and offer standard air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power/leather seats, cd player, ABS brakes, traction control, and stability control.  Options include navigation system and sunroof.  You and your passengers have plenty of room to stretch out with almost 160 cubic feet of cargo room.  Finally, the AWD can tow up to 8100 lbs. and the 2WD can tow up to 7400 lbs.

Overall, the Escalade continues to build on its reputation for putting style over substance.  Then again, you don't buy this sleek SUV for those long family trips to Sheboigan.  Drivers love the powerful V8 engine, smooth handling, plentiful interior space, and high-tech bells and whistles that include Bose sound, OnStar, and DVD-based entertainment and navigation systems.  With a de-emphasis on the blue-collar elements, the Escalade guzzles gas and costs a pretty penny.  Regardless, Cadillac wins major style points with another top-shelf edition of a classic.
