Overall Great Value — Acceleration is terrible at lower spends but once in second or 3rd gear it really takes off. Great for passing cars because of all the torque and the seats are really comfortable on long trips. Not a ton of leg room in the back seats but I usually only have one passenger so that hasn't been a problem for me. It is a great summer car but in the winters it would take forever for the car to warm up. Thank goodness for the heated seats.

I Would By Another '05-'09 Jetta In A Heartbeat. — After 7 months and about 12,000 miles, I am very pleased with my TDI. The 2.0 TDI has not left me wanting for power; I appreciate that it has 236 lb. ft. of torque. The engine clatters a bit on a cold start-up, but is otherwise refined. I have never had to wait more than 3 seconds for the glow plugs to cycle. Fuel economy has been outstanding. I mainly use the car to commute, and have averaged about 43.5 MPG to date. In town, I average 40-42, while on the highway I've routinely averaged 45-48 MPG. My best average to date, for one trip, has been 49.6 MPG. That's pretty damn impressive. The build quality of the Jetta is superior to every other car in its class (indeed, it's better than some vehicles that cost much more). The solid "slam" of the doors is reassuring and gives the car a substantial feel. The soft-touch surfaces on the dash and door panels are outstanding and would not be out of place in a car that costs $10k more. As with all VW cars...service is expensive. However, I have not had problems to date and do not anticipate any. I bought the car because I needed something efficient for my 80 mile (round- trip) commute. The car has certainly delivered on the promise of impressive fuel-efficiency. I am very disappointed that VW chose to cheapen (quite drastically) the interior of the 2011 Jetta. I will not be replacing my '09 with a next-gen Jetta.

Great Vw — I love my jetta. VWs are such great cars. It is peppy yet it sips gas. I will continue to buy VWs! If you are in the market, Jettas are great cars. The Germans know autos. What else can I say?

Work In Progress — I bought the 09 Jetta because my 97 Jetta broke down, it was a sad yet happy day. The performance is decent but can always use more horsepower and torque. Build quality is good as expected from VW. Interior and exterior are nice but in need of upgrades like leather and suede in the interior and atleast blackout of the chrome piece in front if not a full body kit. Cost of ownership is low at the moment with great gas mileage and only needing oil changes every 10,000 miles which come in handy because i drove almost 5,000 miles in the first month of owning it. The car is lots of fun and the 5 cylinder engine is a great conversation starter

Pros

Mileage and fun to drive.

Cons

Mileage 8) — Great gas mileage at 40 plus miles to the gallon, but yet really fun to drive. It is built like a sports sedan and the turbo gives it plenty of passing power on the two laners we drive everyday. The ability to switch to a manual transmission through the use of the DSG is a blast and a great safety feature on icey roads.

Cons

I Love This Car... — This car is an elegant well built German car, it handles like it is on rails. However, the 1.9 tdi engine does not do it justice. It has good torque through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears but lacks that exrta bit of power when you need it. The ride quality is impeccable and it is extremely roomy. This car's party piece is the huge boot which could easily carry up to 7 dead bodies... Overall, it is the best car I have ever driven and would highly recommend it...

Would Buy Another — I have about 30,000kms on it already it had been great so far, not as good fuel economy as my 2001 Jetta 1.9l, it's quicker acceleration wise but top end is fairly close around 195km/h. It has alot more back seat room and a larger trunk which come in handy for the kids and groceries

Connie - My '09 Tdi — Overall, the car is real fun to drive--performance is definitely improved with at least a dropped suspension. For the first three years or 36,000mi, you pay nothing for the car except for the modifications and car care products. So far I've had only one major problem (having had the car for 31,000 miles, it doesn't surprise me). The door locks refuse to stay locked while driving, and I'm also having a problem with my rear right door (same thing happened on my 2005.5 Jetta). Not too many people like the appearance of the car, but honestly, it really grows on you and despite its simplicity, in my opinion, it really is a real good looking car, stock or not.
