2009 Scion xD Base Review
ProsTorquey, flexible engine, well matched with solid 5-speed. Logically arranged dash. Very workable storage space with the 60/40 backseats folded completely or partially flat. Gas mileage is excellent and should appeal to hyper-milers. Great crash test results. Should help the insurance. ConsRoad noise through some noise stock tires (also reputed to have short tread life). A firm ride comes with a short, wide wheelbase and I like it's feel but I wonder about long trips that have to be done without many rest stops. The build quality feels tight at this early stage of ownership but I get the sense that the sheet metal guage might be a little thin. I suspect all manufacturers looking for good EPA numbers have the same standards.

Scion Xd Is A Winner For The Times We Live In. Remember The Old Bug? Today, It's The Pug. — "Pugnacious".....some say bulldog. I say pug. (cleaner; no drool) some say "entry level" I say "downsizer". Nimble "runabout" says Consumer Reports. When I read their "most reliable in class" award, I began to consider the xD much more seriously. Toyota created this brand for youth seeking individuality by the way in which they would accessorize (mod) the base Scion. With the xD, however, many of us with extended experience and established identity see the value in the xD as it stands, without the added qualifiers. Toyota has nailed it for those of us who want dependable point A to B with a good dose of personality at no extra cost. Very nicely done. Primary Use: Family transportation

Pleasant Ride With Toyota Reliability — i have an 09 xd with auto trany . 11k miles on it so far . its very good on gas i get 31.8 to work and back mix city and country driving. its no race car but its fun to drive . alot of room with rear seats down . a little wind noise at hwy speeds but car is very stable . brakes are great and visability is very good . over all its a great car for the money Primary Use: Commuting to work | ||

2009 Scion Xd — Build quality,standard/optional features/accessories.It is not a sports/performance machine;but I get from AB and back with comfort and economy. I drove a 5MT Honda Insight for 8 yrs. and while economical it was a maintenance headache. My xD does not have the fuel economy of a hybrid but the purchase price is much more economical and the maintenance costs should far offset the fuel costs.Overall I am quite pleased with my new xD and if it displays the same reliability as previous Toyota products Ive owned(it has a Corolla/Matrix motor)then it will be a purchase that was well chosen on my part.So far I have only 1 :"complaint" about the car:since it has the larger (Corolla/Matrix) engine,it should have the same fuel capacity(13.2gal.vs.11.1gal. of the Yaris! | ||

Scion "hot Lava" Xd Review — i love my car...it is a special edition scion xd "hot lava" it is the base model xd with a few upgrades: a custom damd bodykit, a custom paint, matching interior plastic pieces, orange exerpts in the cloth, a custom shifter knob, and lowering spreings. this car is HOT. i love the way it drives and i love the way it looks as it rolls down the street. there are only 2000 hot lavas available and al i can say...Get 'em while their HOT | ||

All Around Fun — The driving is exqusite. You can feel the car grip to the ground when accelerating and turning. The interior and exterior are really nice. It has very low miles and is a brand new 2009. This car has optional features that can be put in at any time, such as interior lighting, an upgraded stereo, and upgraded rims. This car is awesome | ||

Good Overall Value And Reliable Vehicle, Not Very Fun To Drive And Poor Visibility — The Scion XD is a small hatchback that is great for city driving. It's relatively inexpensive compared to most new cars both to purchase and to maintain, and delivers a lot of usable cargo space in a relatively small package. The back sets fold down for extra room, making it great for bringing a lot of things on a weekend trip (assuming you don't have kids) or transporting pets. Fuel consumption isn't too bad either - I tended to get in the high 20's and low 30's with primarily city driving. The stock tires aren't very good though, but it feels much nicer after installing some higher quality tires. As expected from an inexpensive vehicle, the performance is the XD's biggest issue. It's relatively slow to accelerate, though it is a bit more fun to drive as a manual rather than automatic. It also has a surprisingly bad turning radius for the city hatchback category that it falls into. Similarly, the visibility is pretty poor. The small back window and large rear pillars contribute to difficult blind spots and slightly more difficulty in parallel parking (but the overall size of the vehicle makes it pretty easy still). It's also surprisingly loud in terms of road noise. Primary Use: Commuting to work |
