A M6 or and Brabus / AMG have the same power, and I do believe (never tested it) but all 3 of them will be quicker, more maneuverable and better in the breaks... what is an old brontosaurus trying to keep up with new technology... For the Hollywood movies it will work, but watch it Bollywood is producing a new car to hee !! ;-) (only for 1.600 Dollars)
And then, I did not even mention Veyeron / Koenigsegg / Atom / zonda .... I think even the new lotus Elise is as fast as this supercharged , wet old granny with an engine that for a 6 liter only produces 600 HP ??? !!!

Chris hey but for 100 grand its a bargain compared to anything from the "old continent" and anything from europe for 100grand has no chance of keeping up.
Andrew Marteen- the corvette is actually pretty damn good on gas, especially for the class it is in the Z06 gets 29mpg hwy, and the Zr1 gets 23mpg, what other 600+hp carr can claim that, actually not many cars above 300hp can. the the ZR1 weights 600lbs less than the M6 and uses the same brembos found on the Enzo in the back and FXX in the front... so im pretty sure it can stop a hell of a lot quicker then an M6.. The Zr1 is also equipped with better suspension. and every review claims how amazing its handling is, so yeah those apparent kings of cornering from Europe/ Germany can sit down.
GM never claimed they made the fastest car, and what does fastest even mean? top speed, 0-60, quater mile, half mile... all that has been said is that the ZR1 got are nurburgring in 7:22.4... which is the fastest a factory STOCK car has gotten around the track
and just becaust a car has the same power output doesnt mean it will be as fast around the ring, that power needs direction... gotta aim a cannon before you fire it.
some people need to not be so arrogant and not like cars because they are made in a certain country, and especially not like cars because of who the president is in said country...
as for india making a car for $1500 that car will never meet north american safety standards so the US auto manufacturers need not worry about that POS intruding on their home turf. Plus i read that Tata is having problems with their Government and recent protests. and also have you seen that car.. not much of a car and more bent metal with a steering wheel, i bet i can go faster on my bicycle.
Tommy this is faster than any big heavy sedan. the other cars are built better for sure but this is faster. it out runs the enzo without too much trouble.

And please arrogant !!! we have our reasons ! Be sure these numbers your giving ... A 6 liter turbo charged engine ... just mathematically it isn’t possible to have a reasonable consumption . Just take a 6l engine .. supercharge it, so it take already at least 30% of your engines’' power. Than to recharge your petrol. So actually after a quick calculation you should end up with a consumption of at least 30 - 40 Liter of gasoline. I do believe no other car here in Europe does consume this !!! IF you say the corvette is doing pretty good, well I saw it as a enormous problem, It's consumption. Just because it's a little lighter than the usual corvette, it will consume less...

Than In Japan, you have custom production cars. Like BMW the M series has, or Mercedes brabus,AMG. They play and fiddle around with those tiny little 2 liter engines , to produce eazily 600 Hp. Nissan skyline, subaru impreza GTR, mitsubishi evo all of them have rebuilders where the limits are pulled to the limits. I've been driving around a 800hp turbo charged car in Taiwan, and the funny thing was ... the owner drove the car on daily base to work and back. A consumption of 15-20 liter was very reasonable !!!
Nurburgring .. of core every body watching the British Topgear knows it. Every body playing play station knows it... but the moment you drove it you know what a car needs to be quick on those tracks. And it's not a enormous 6l heavy engine, with breaks we have here standard on our production sporty cars, suspension that is still a little sloppy (OK it's already much better) but still ...
It's just an expensive plastic car, with the American way standard engine (which are not bad he, they are solid) not the latest technology of suspension and breaks. You know the Germans succeeded in producing a Petrol (Diesel) TDI Formula I car. The engine is lighter than the corvettes, it produces much more torck, and the maneuverability is apparently phenomenous, all this from a diesel engine ???
You know I like the car to ... It's a funny looking sports car. But it's has his charms of the Hollywood movies. You know mustang has a new supercharged model to If I'm right. It's a cool car to ... But to say it's the best , fastest or most powerful production car ... that's a little over the top.

Carlos I've read ur comments, and it seems u keep bringing up the fact post-factory modified cars making over 600hp, as mentioned, mercedes AMG and the beemer M series. THe corvette is a production car available to the public with 600 ponies as a standard. Thtough some changes u can easily boost it's power to more outstanding figures, and well get over 1000hp without cracking the engine, which would most likely happen to tuner cars, as the Impreza, evos, etc... But then again, we are talking about a production car. To put matters on more equal base as urs, it would be wrong to say the Veyron is the car with the most hp ever built, since we have Hennessy vipers boosted to 1000hp and even a shelby cobra boosted to 1200hp or so... but the veyron is the PRODUCTION car with the most hp.
As far as your opinions on european car superiority, you should check out the GT track listings and figure out which is the dominant car, I think u'll finde the vettes gathering up at the top.
I have no question about the german TDI technology, but that is not the issue here. Bigger engines have certain qualities that smaller engines don't have, even if the pull the same same horsepower. Bigger engines have a smoother power delivery curve. And it is a production car, available from any local dealer, with almost no period of waiting to get it, (just what it takes to cash it in), in the part, it can easily grab the title as the fastest, best and most powerful PRODUCTION car to the date.

You need a little maneuverablity, good breaks and a car that you can handle, otherwise what's the point.
It's a nice plestic car. But it's just not the best , fastest or what ever .. it's just older technics again superchaged. It consumes a lot.
AMG, M, Brabus etc etc are standard cars. You can go to your local dealer and buy yourself a car that is good.
It's not just having 600hp , it's what you can do with it.
It's not just being big, functionality (porche GTII, smaler boxer engine, but it needs to be small. Like that you can handel all that power)
Ever seen something of your japanees neighbours.... Nissan GTR (standard as ever)
And if you want to have more power. A brittish OPEL owner packed his car with 2200 HP. ROAD LEGAL !!!!

Sherif Well said sis, engine technology is just one of the areas USA has fallen behind in, suspension, brakes, ride comfort and gas mileage are a few of the others.
Although it has to be said, this ZR1 does handle alot better than the others, I've never driven it but I've watched a few reviews including a British top gear episode last week (Season 12 Episode 2) and everyone agreed that this handles better.

You remember Mercedes 20 years ago I think, producing a car, with an engin 1,4 Liter engin ... with 1400 HP !!! Ok consumtion ;-) But thats technology to the limits. And you know this car , 20 years ago, was already equiped with Ceramic breaks. So finally they got the vision, of making a car that is handeble ... Remember the Delorian :) haha ... Randy Heather Wow! Way to prove that you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. The vette has a faster 0-60 and faster quarter mile than the M6, Brabus, or ANY AMG. It's also faster than the McLaren SLR. Not to mention it get's better fuel economy than any of those. This is GREAT engineering.
Also the ZR1 is WAAAAAYYY less expensive than the Veyeron, Koenigsegg, Atom, or Zonda. The Lotus Elise comment has got to be a joke. Read the Caranddriver article where the Cobalt SS stomps the supercharged Elise around the track. I was shocked too, but it's the fact.
Aaron what the heck does that have to do with anything? just because i have a honda doesn't mean i don't know anything about cars. i aint some idiot like my rice boy counterparts who think they can beat anything. its just a reliable source of transportation. plus it's all i can afford right now. i wish i could get a muscle car but with the way gas prices are id rather stick with my ol' honda that gets 37mpg with 183,000 miles on her. id like to see a jag turn that many miles without puking an engine or two first.
Aaron and also, the japanese do a dang good job of building a car themselves. you wanna talk horsepower per liter the honda S2000 has a higher rating than most lambos or ferraris. and the RB26DETT out a skyline can be built to produce up to 1800hp to all four wheels with only two turbos. the bugatti needs four just to make 1000hp. cadillac made that much with a V16. granted it was just a prototype though...

Carlos yea, most ppl are crazy and do crazy shit to their cars, like putting NOS to a Mclaren street car! but ur missing the point still, u continue to talk about packing an OPEL with 2200HP, etc.. when we're referencing the vette as a production out of the line car. Sure, the AMG can be bout in ur local dealer, but that car is based on a production car, the car itself, off the assembly line does not have that qualities, it requires AMG to squeeze the ponies out of the giving engine, just as the Enzo and the FXX.
To tell u the truth, after I saw it was plastic, I was like "wtf!!" but that doesn't shadow the greatness of the car and point fact its great specs directly from the assembly line.

Randy Heather Oh well it's good to hear that others have already corrected you on your false accusations. How about looking at some real numbers and some real tests of the ZR1. You speak of what you do not know.
The base model Corvette has a 6.2 liter v-8 with 436 horsepower and it still gets 26 mpg on the highway, and according to most magazine publications, that figure is a modest one.
To say that the ZR1 has outdated brakes is absurd. It's front brakes are from the Ferrari Enzo, and it's rear brakes are from the Ferrari FXX! They are made by Brembo and they are Carbon Ceramic.
Furthermore, The suspension is equipped infinitely variable magnetic shocks. The car pulls a peak of 1.1 gs on the skid pad for goodness sake!
I'm not saying that the Japanese and the Europeans have bad cars. I'm just saying that it is ridiculous to say that this one isn't capable.

Matt one thing that i have not seen mentioned is that small engines do not produce much torque where as larger engines do so even if the smaller engine produces the same or even a little more it wont have the torque to put the horsepower to use.
and what is the point in spending a lot of money on developing new engines when the pushrod v8 does such a good job at a lower price. there is a reason why nascar and topfuel dragsters use v8s and there not even fuel injected. keepin it simple is always better.
you can always send your vette off to lingenfelter to twin turbo it and make 1300 horspower which is street legal and will do a standing mile in 25.12 seconds at 226.25 mph on 93 octane
Troy So your saying that a Brabus can control its power better than a vette? Im pretty sure I saw a video of Jeremy Clarkson driving a brabus, and he could not control the car at all. The car has like 900 lb-ft of torque and it just cant handle that. And I just watched this video of the zr1 and guess what the test drivers could actually drive the car instead of having to hang on for dear life like in the brabus. Your are sitting here complaining about how the corvette isnt technologically advanced. And yet this pushrod v8 that the basic structure has been around since the 60's is beating these advanced cars that have 12 settings for the transmission, 5 for the engine, and 3 for the suspension. You think that European cars are so much better than give some cold hard stats where the Europeans beat the zr1. You also state that it isnt possible for a 6 liter engine to get good fuel economy on the highway than you know nothing about big engines. Bigger engines make better fuel economy than smaller engines at highway speed because the engine is basically sitting at idle because it produces enough torque at that rpm to keep it there whereas the smaller engines have to work harder to keep up the speed thus consuming more fuel.

96 feet 60-0? Not many can do that.
It's only about 100k in American dollars, less then the Ferrari Enzo that it beats around the 'Ring. And the Vette has things like power windows, AC, and satellite radio.
I'm not saying that Euro cars suck, I love quite a few of them.

Christopher They say "Its quarter-mile acceleration is quicker than any production car we've ever tested" doesnt mean they think it is the best car in the world and it may ONLY have 600hp but it ways bugger all and it is the second fastest car around the Ring which has some pretty nasty high speed turns which shows just how good it is despite being an american car i think (marteen) you need to be more willing to call a car good even if you dont really like it everyone has their favourites and dream cars that even if the pope told them not to by it because it is a pus bucket they will still buy it thats why these types of cars sell and the minute people start bagging these cars is the day manufacturers stop making them so shut up or we will all be drivings corrollas and lets hope that doesnt happen
