2008 Suzuki XL-7 Limited AWD w/ DVD Review
ProsExcellent interior space, versatile, good towing behavior, outstanding handling on snow and ice (solid, surefooted, and prudent), reasonably comfortable ride, excellent A/C and heating, very reliable engine and drivetrain, neither ugly nor beautiful appearance, tows trailers firmly and reliably. Will definitely get you to where you want to go (but not especially fun to drive--it's a stylized box with wheels). Very good at everything (but not great at anything). Dual-personality acceleration (accelerates like a truck or like a sports car depending on how aggressively the accelerator is used). Used XL7s have excellent utility, features, and reliability for the price. ConsCheap plastic interior (scratches easily, high vibration/bad road environments create plastic-on-plastic rattles, but with some additions the interior can be improved to a nicer standard),, large D-pillars (rear visibility restricted), intentionally unexciting driving behavior (solid, surefooted, and prudent), large turning radius, a few cheap parts in the air control requiring high-labor premature replacement, neither ugly nor beautiful appearance, gasoline mileage is typical for this type of vehicle (careful driving gets about 18 MPG on average). Not especially fun to drive--it's a stylized box with wheels (but will definitely get you to where you want to go). Not great at anything (but very good at everything). Polycarbonate headlight lenses don't fade, but do scratch easily. Small main battery plus high parasitic loads cause battery drains requiring occasional boosting with a charger or power supply. Carlike build, dual-personality acceleration (accelerates like a truck or like a sports car depending on how aggressively the accelerator is used).

After Driving The Xl7 For Four Years, I Still Really Like It. — I bought the XL7 for it's versatility, solid driving behavior, and price. After four years behind the wheel and giving it excellent care, the XL7 has continued to be the highly versatile, highly serviceable, and cost-effective vehicle I needed. After four years, its still solid, dependable, comfortable, and is simply very good at everything. Excellent in ice and snow handling for the AWD transmission and engine. And with dual A/C heating and a pretty good suspension it is comfortable in all weather. The design and drivetrain lend themselves to reliabillity, over highly spirited driving--the XL7 by design personality does not zip around anywhere and will resist spirited driving (sometimes saying so on it's display). For my uses, this car has been and continues to be a excellent. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

ProsGas Mileage, Ride ConsGround clearance

Best Suv Ever Owned — Love the gas mileage, much better than my kia! Ride quality is Lincoln like and the third row seat is handy, the engine power is good and sips gas, 24 MPG for this size SUV is awesome, leather seats are comfy and the steering wheel controls are very handy to have.

I Am Glad I Bought It, I Will Be Shopping For A New One When This One Grows Old. — I own a 2008 Suzuki XL7, it is a very nice SUV-Crossover. It comes in handy when you have a family of 5 and not so much money to spend on gas. My mom owns a 2004 Cadillac DeVille and I have to say... it's a bit nicer than her car. Heated leather seats for Winter and a nice big sunroof for Summer. Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsSmooth operating, good all around car for the money. ConsVisibility not great for backing up, have to use the mirrors more.

Good Car For The Money — The wheel alignment on rear wheels was not right, out of the factory. I felt comfortable with the car during the test drive, I had just driven a 2009 Sorrento, and it seemed way better than the Sorreto. The XL7 has been flawless in snow storms, and DEEP snow. The fuel mileage averages 20mpg in summer, and 17.5 mpg in winter. ProsGood looking SUV with lots of cargo space and 3 row seating. Lots of power with 6 speed auto/manual trans. Tan leather power seats, AM/FM/CD ConsSome road and engine noise in cabin

Car Has Performed Well, No Mechanical Issues — Bought this car for use at a vacation home in Colorado. Have decided that AWD is required for that climate and road conditions. The car is also covered by extended warranty with 3 years and 44k miles remaining. Mileage is 17 city and 21 hwy. Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsGood engine, comfortable, drives well, quiet interior, lots of cargo/people space, AWD. ConsCheapish interior (improvable), MPG is SUV-ish, definitely not a sports car.

2008 Xl7 — Like: good engine power, outstanding cargo capacity, reasonably quiet interior, drives very well (feels kinda "heavy", wind doesn't blow it around much), nice amenities, comfortable, AWD, ESC, traction control, monitorable tire pressure, tows 3500lbs, lots of Suzuki accessories, high liftgate, lots of power jacks. Dislike: cheapish-seeming interior (trim-level and accessory improvable), SUV-ish MPG, rear-visibility limited (rear camera helps). In sum: Very nice car/SUV. |
