The top end of the Xterra line, the 2008 Nissan Xterra SE combines extra features with an adventurous spirit, packed into a small, utilitarian SUV. The rear-wheel-drive SE features the same 4.0-liter DOHC V6 engine as the other trims, packing 265 hp and 281 ft-lbs of torque. A 6-speed manual is standard, and a 5-speed automatic optional. Like the other trims, it comes with 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, traction and stability control, tire monitor, skid plates, a new auto-dimming mirror, and dual front-side airbags. The 2008 Xterra SE adds foglights and larger 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires. Side curtain airbags for both rows and rollover protection are optional.
Other extras you get when you buy an SE include an upgraded Rockford Fosgate sound system, with nine speakers, a 6-CD changer, MP3 input, and satellite radio. The controls are located on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, also standard on the 2008 Xterra SE. A trip computer and Bluetooth are also along for the ride. The rest of the standard features are similar, such as a full power setup (no power seats or leather, however), cruise control, intermittent front and rear wipers, remote entry, a security system, privacy glass, four power outlets, and six cupholders. The rear seats split 60/40, expanding the 35-cubic-foot trunk to 66 cubic feet. Standard on the SE (and optional on other trims) is a fold-down front passenger seat for longer objects. Ten tie-down hooks, an adjustable track system, and a cargo net help with storage, and a roof rack with a lockbox adds more room. Options add on a navigation system, DVD player, and an iPod hookup. A tow package lets you haul around 5,000 pounds.
