Brand new this year is the high-testosterone 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha, with a stronger 5.3-liter, 300-hp V8 that produces 320 lb-ft of torque. The new engine boosts two ratings to 6000 pounds. Full-time four-wheel drive is accompanied by a locking center differential, revised rack and pinion steering, four high and low range gearing settings, traction and stability control, 4-wheel ABS brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, and 16-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. Other safety equipment includes dual front and side curtain airbags, a tire monitor, automatic headlights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and foglights. The truck suspension (front independent and rear live axle), skid plates, and nine inches of ground clearance add to the off-road capability.
Much like the H3X, the 2008 H3 Alpha has heated leather seats, a 6-CD changer, 8-way power front seats, satellite radio, full power features, keyless entry, intermittent front and rear wipers, and OnStar. It doesn't have the standard tubular running boards, but does come with a roof rack. A lightbar is optional. The Alpha adds a universal remote to the standard features and a chrome grille. The cargo area expand from 29 to 56 cubic feet and comes with tie-down. A trailer hitch is optional. Other options include a rearview camera, sunroof, navigation system, a body-colored grille, and an off-road suspension package, which includes a stiffer suspension, off-road tires, and a locking rear differential.
