The base-model Outlander has all of the features it needs to make it practical and safe family transportation. Best of all, it's a friend to the environment, thanks to green advancements in its engine.
The 3.0-liter, 220-horsepower MIVEC V6 makes the most of performance and efficiency by wearing different hats depending on RPM. At slower speeds it maximizes performance, while at higher speeds the emphasis is on power.
Safety features consists of ABS, air bags (a dual-stage front system and side-curtain units with roll sensors), active skid control, plus daytime running lights for maximum visibility to other drivers.
Interior amenities include air conditioning, an MP3-compatible audio system with 6 speakers, cruise control, and multiple storage compartments. You'll also get remote keyless entry and a handy flap-fold tailgate. This trim is not available in four-wheel drive.

The LS is powered by a 220-horsepower MIVEC V6, as are all Outlanders. The 6-speed Sportronic auto transmission is also the same. On this trim you can opt for leather seating and a sunroof, whereas you could not on the base model.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel has convenient audio controls at the driver's fingertips, and the center console features a sliding armrest to adjust according to the occupant's height. The same conveniences (air conditioning, remote keyless entry, cruise control, storage compartments) found on the ES are of course found on the LS, too.
Ditto for safety features: active skid control, dual-stage air bags, side-curtain air bags, and ABS. The Outlander's exterior boasts an aluminum roof panel, dual exhaust finishers, and edgy-looking LED taillights.

The XLS presents a sporty personality alongside an array of equipment that's unique to its trim. This is the only Outlander with auto climate-control and the third-row jumpseat, which stows compactly and cleverly beneath the floor to create cargo space.
It's also the only Outlander with the FAST key, a coded fob that unlocks the door and turns off the anti-theft engine immobilizer when it is touched to the door handle. As far as looks go, you'll know it by its silver roof rails (which are black on the LS and nonexistent on the ES), 18-inch alloy wheels, and fog lights.

What is an SUV without four-wheel drive? Well, it's still a sport-utility vehicle, of course, but that utility is a bit restricted.
Actually, on the Outlander it's all-wheel drive rather than the traditional four-wheel. The system is electronically controlled and features multiple modes.
The LS AWD features all of the same safety equipment as the 2WD LS (air bags, ABS, and active skid control) as well as the same comforts and conveniences (air conditioning, cruise control, pre-wiring for Bluetooth hands-free communication, leather interior accents, and remote keyless entry). The driver's seat has a wonderful, 10-way power adjust to keep back pain and other discomfort at bay.
On the outside, alloy wheels catch the eye, as does the exhaust finisher. Black roof rails await any cargo that won't fit inside.

If you're going for a loaded crossover, you cannot skip the all-wheel drive. It's absolutely an essential component, especially on a vehicle as sport-minded as the Outlander XLS.
The system on this one is a multi-mode all-wheel drive, which lets you choose from among two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive auto, and 4-wheel drive lock. The auto mode lets the wheels tell it how much torque they need in response to slippage, and the lock mode holds onto a 50-50 split between the axles.
You'll find some standard equipment on the XLS trims that isn't available on the lower-level Outlanders. The most coveted is the innovative third-row jumpseat, which stows compactly and cleverly beneath the floor to create cargo space.
Other XLS exclusives are automatic climate-control and the FAST key system, which uses a coded fob to unlock the door and turn off the anti-theft engine immobilizer when touched to the door handle. As far as looks go, you'll know the XLS by its silver roof rails (which are black on the LS and nonexistent on the ES), 18-inch alloy wheels, and fog lights.
