To hear Mitsubishi say it, the only thing missing on this car is the roof. And since that's why people buy it, everything must be just ducky.
As far as what's gained, let's start with horsepower. The Spyder's GT trim gets a 3.8-liter V6 that puts out 260 horses. Gearheads will stick with the 6-speed manual transmission, but there is an optional 5-speed Sportronic automatic tranny that still allows for manual shifting, albeit without a clutch.
A booming audio system is de rigueur for any convertible, but especially for one as sexy as this one. Would you settle for a 650-watt Rockford Fosgate with 9 speakers, including an 8-inch integrated rear subwoofer? Yeah, we figured that would be OK with you. This one also has a 6-CD in-dash changer and wheel-mounted controls.
The well-outfitted Spyder GT also has automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, and a security alarm system. Its looks are gussied up with 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome and clear taillights, parabolic fog lights, and a stainless-steel exhaust finisher.
Occupant safety is of paramount importance, and as such Mitsubishi has put in multi-stage front air bags as well as side-impact units. ABS comes standard, and the reinforced body was designed to keep impact energy away from the people inside.
